Default Wheel hop

Hi,

I have a Silverado with a bolt in 4 link suspension under the rear. QA1 coil-overs 12'' by 12'' springs, 300lbs.

I went to the track wednesday night running street tires. This resulted in wheel hop thru 1st gear, netting 2.2/2.3 60'. Does anyone have any idea on why I may be getting wheel hop?

It was suggested to me to add more weight over the rear tires... Maybe load the rear up with a few bags of top soil. Also, my frame is damn near resting on my axle because I am droppped in the back 4''. The bumpstops are laying on the axle. Is it possible something is happening here?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Where is your instant center. What is your shock settings, and the rear springs are awfully stiff. You need at least 1 inch of clearance between the fram and the housing.

Madman,

I have no idea on how to measure instant center. I tried reading thru your thread but, it only confused me more.
Shocks are set at 0 clicks. Springs are heavy. I was thinking about changing to a 175lb like you suggested but, I need to carry certain things. Shocks are too short. I have about 4'' of shaft showing. I'm thinking a 14-15'' shock.

You need to fab up a panhard bar. Take for instance the Camaros , they have a brace attached from the rear diff to the transmission this will solve your problem.

I have a panhard bar. If you are standing behind the vehicle, it is bolted in from the frame (left) and connects to the back of the bars that clamp onto the (right) axle. Perhaps mine isn't doing its job correctly?

I'd post a picture but cardomain is down.

You probably have too much shaft showing. What is the total stroke on the shock??

Setting the shocks on "0" is taking the shock out of the equation. If they are QA1s put them on 6 to start with.

We can look at Instant center after you get the shocks right.

Near 4''. I think I need a longer shock... maybe a 14''.

What is the total stroke on the shock??
11 5/8 compressed, 17'' extended

Setting the shocks on "0" is taking the shock out of the equation. If they are QA1s put them on 6 to start with.
Okay

Thanks.

If you have 4" shaft showing then the shock is stretched all the way out. It wont work that way. The way I set the rear is with a 1 1/2 of shaft showing. This allows the shock to stretch out on launch.

Yes. It measures near 17'' from eye to eye so, you are correct in that it is stretched all of the way out. This is a 12'' shock. Maybe a 14-15'' shock would work better.
Is this the cause of my wheelhop?
Thank you MadMan.

If you get the coreect springs and get the shock mounted correctly then these shocks will work. Yes this is the cause of the wheel hop. You have the suspension all confused.

Thumbs up

Madman,
How are the current shocks mounted incorrectly?
Can't wait to get this thing hooking.

...Thought about it
Are you saying the 175lb spring will allow the shock to be extended at its correct length?

Thank you.

I have no idea how they are mounted. I'm just going off what you have stated. Post a pic.
