It should be pretty damn good considering what I see floating around here.

Friday night LS1 shoot out... hmmmm....

The coater is a placed called "Cooter's" in the Grand Blanc / Flint area.

Damn, I miss not having a car.

Damn that, I couldnt even begin to fathom a bare MS (I know this one is CM, but for those ultra-tiny budget guys like me...) Rollbar/cage. That would be crazy especially since it would invite rust, which in itself weakens the structure, but then add the rough edges/abrasion points.

Kevin, can you tell us what color he's thinking of going with this beauty?

doubt it, PC only needs a few hundred degrees. Hell, it'll probably stress relieve the welds anyway

your frame rails more than likely get hotter due to header clearance than a quick bake for coating.

I do know they outlawed chroming stuff. Chemical etching of the base metal would be my guess on why.

We do some powdercoating in house at my work. IIRC 500 degrees is all thats needed, we do smaller custom parts which only takes about 20-30min of bake time. Don't know whats required for a cage.

at my work we stress releive welds in a 500* oven for about an hour, so it could do it some good.
so no PC will not weaken the steel.

I had a couple of motorcycle frames powder coated a while back, and the coater said they they go in the oven for about an hour at 400*

Nothing like killing 2 birds with one stone.
Plus it looks dead sexy!

Whats the orangeish/browninsh stuff on the quarter panel in the first pic?

I dont really know what the reasons were or how it was explained to me on why SFI said no more coating of cages/frames but if i recall it had something to do with not being able to tell the penetration of the welds once it had been coated and something else. I have a 25-2 spec book at home. Ill look at it and see if I can find anything about this.

The inspectors will prefer to do the initial inspection before coating. In fact they would prefer it. If it comes coated they do tell you that they will strip paint in any corners and bars they wish to inspect the welds as well as the tubing thickness. We're likely going to get mine checked out first before coating it. Don't know yet for certain. Most of the inspectors here are willing to work with you on it.
