Question bullets after collectors????

well im ready for a new set-up.....

i currently run FLP headers, cut-out, and stock cat back......

i was thinking of just bolting a pair of bullets to the collectors....
figured id save about 50-70 pounds and maybe gain a few rwhp?

so which muffler would gain the most HP and be the quietest?

and ideas?

If you are going to try that on the street I think you're crazy!

Maybe for track days unbolt the catback and bolt on some extensions w/ dynomax bullets? I have used a 5" borla XR1 round muffler before and it's quieter but I doubt you could fit two under a camaro.

If you seriously want to shave weight and still drive it a lot think about a lightweight single exhaust like running a single 3" pipe all the way back with a bullet muffler where the old catback muffler is. You can then get rid of the heat shields too then and it will be ok for the street. On my RX7 I used a stainless catback that's 80mm (3.125") and it only weighed 17#'s. The y-pipe probably added another 15#'s so the weight penalty wasn't that bad and I can actually hear myself think and don't have to deal with the fumes. I think the aluminized exhausts may be the lightest. The stock muffler is heavy!

EDIT: At least if you are going to run bullets aim them towards the side of the car or down.. it will cut down on the fumes/noise in the car. I had shortys+stock cats dumped like that and when I added the turn downs/outs it was a lot better in the car.

PNly problem with aiming the exhaust out teh sides like that is if any fluid comes out the motor ( blow it up or something ) the fluid will go directly onto the rear tires, and the road they have to trave over.. and I think that it is nhra illegal because of that.

I thought about doing so myself. I know a bunch of people that run mufflers off teh collectors and leave it at that, usually they just use a bullet and dump it.. but it is loud, outside and inside the car

I think a xr1 with a dump would be o.k., if you can tuck it up under the car, not sure what the dia. of the outside of one of those is.

If you're planning on running a muffer right after the collector, you probably won't be able to fit anything other than a bullet syle muffler, which is what I have. Its quieter than open headers and sounds much cleaner. That would be your lightest option, but may not be the quietest.

A friend of mine just put some bullets on the flanges for the cats for FLP headers and hated them. Do you want me to ask him if wants to get rid of them?
