Speed Inc. lightweight carpet
#41
I emailed Speed about the carpet, and they said that they no longer will be selling it. Where can I get the YearOne carpet from? On the YearOne site I can only find carpet for older Camaro's. Does someone have a link?

I got my light weight carpet over a month ago from speed inc. I paid almost 300 for it and it wasnt even molded when i got it. I would have sent it back but I had removed my interior already so I just put it in. I thought they said it was a molded carpet and I feel i got alittle screwed but I am getting used to it. I couldnt get it perfect like I wanted . It was alittle cold and with it not being molded I have bumps and ****. sucks for me. But I did get the weight savings I was looking for so Ill learn to live with it. I wont run back to them for other stuff though.

This sucks... I wanted to buy teh uncut carpet so I could remove my center console when I install my TH400 tranny, and just cut around the shifter.... looks like I'll have to go back to the drawing board... and leave teh center console in now, which menas a shifter that will fit thru the factory opening.. etc. etc. Sucks!

I would reccomend using something other than the speed inc. carpet as well. I too bought mine several months ago, before this thread was started, I have since got it installed. Damn does it look like ****! Took several hours just to get it to look the way it is. fitment was terrible. I had left it spread out for a couple days before installing it in hopes it would make the job easier. Mine seemed to be molded, just not for an F-body. I think I will be tearing this up and getting the year one stuff. What a waste of time and money.

One thing I seen In a NHRA superstocker was that he in fact did use black speaker box carpet(easy to stretch around corners and humps etc), but he had an upolstery shop sew a factory rubber heal pad back on. It looked great and I had to look twice that it was not factory.

I have been thinking about going the do it yourself route. I think im going to try and use some fleece from a local fabric store. Its very easy wrap around corners etc, and also has a little stretch to it. When done i wouldnt see it being more than 4-5lb.

spray paint your floor black... i did the back and was so impressed i ended up doing the ENTIRE floor. will be putting the roll on bedliner stuff at the drivers and passenger side feet.

I wanted teh speed inc carpet because I wanted to remove teh center console all together.. and teh uncut would have allowed for a neat carpet install right up to the shifter, and would have looked good... now that's off.
I know that I'll have to remove teh arpet for the eventual cage install this summer, when that happens, I'll gut the backing off the stock carpet the best that I can, and hope that will be good enough I guess, and try to find another center console to hack to fit around the hurst quarter stick I'm most likly gonna go with.
It's really too bad teh whole carpet thing went to hell, the old stuff that speed inc had was really good, and I liked teh wa it looked. If someone were to step up and start making a carpet taht was molded correctly for our cars, with no cutouts so you can cut it as you see fit... they's have the market cornered.

my speed carpet looks like **** as well. i called a couple of auto carpet places and they will sell an uncut molded carpet without the backing. none of them are sponsers but just search the net for carpet dealers, there are quit a few. the one guy i've talked to said it would weigh about 15 lbs. thats not as light as the stuff i have, but the appearance should be worth it. as soon as i get my car back together i am going to get it.
