Default What will I run...

My car is a '98 Trans Am, A4, no cats, Magnaflow catback, slp cold air & smooth bellow, fiberglass ram air hood, msd wires, tr-55 plugs, etc.

Soon to be LS6 intake, AFR Mongoose 205cc heads, FMS F11 cam, LS6 oil pump, 3000 stall converter, 24000 GVW tranny cooler, Moser 12 bolt w/3.73's, and some small slicks.

My best with just the first mods is a 13.66 at 101 mph, but I had some detonation on top end and it slowed me down a bit...car has 84,000 miles on it, and I'll be running at Bristol Dragway in Bristol, Tennessee....not sure on the altitude there...

Have the converter, cooler, oil pump, and intake laying around here, just need the rest...

What do you guys think I'll do on the dyno and run/trap over at Bristol next fall....?

Thanks.

What??? I live in Virginia, it's not easy to get by with longtubes, or any kind of exhaust whatsoever....if it's loud, you get a ticket, plain and simple...
every mod that I listed will be on the car next fall at bristol, just like I said earlier..not a wish list...only need a few more things.

Without headers all of the other mods won't get you what they could. A motor is an air pump and doing all the mods in the world will not make it pump more air than the smallest part can pass. And the 98-99 stock manifolds are the worst of the bunch.

You need to reconsider your plans before you spend a bunch of money for very little performance.

Throw long tubes on it with a cutout and have a y-pipe made to run it back into the stock exhaust, that way the cops can never say anything and when u wnat it u can open the cutout

I don't see you being able to muscle any better than a low twelve second pass with no LTs and that tight of a converter with all those mods NA.

If you can't run LTs, why not just skip the heads and just go with a cam and a wet shot(125 or 150) with that small converter/gear on a 27 or 28" tire? MHO

Good luck to ya.

PS - Ounces make pounds, and pounds make horsepower!

Pounds don't make hp. Less weight means less mass to move, which results in quicker times. Less weight means less hp needed to run a certain time.

Watch your mouth junior. This is my only warning before you take a little vacation. I was simply stating the truth for the member.

Headers with a cutout is a pretty good idea. Headers can be worth 20-40rwhp with different h/c combos. I've seen many h/c combos without headers dyno well below the bigger numbers you've seen in the Internal Engine section.

Converter might be a little tight for optimal performance. A 4500 would be the most I would run on the street, and with slicks I would run mid 11's. With a 3000, I'd expect to run a little slower, like 11.6-11.9.

I have raced at Bristol Dragway, and it's sometimes got a high DA. I raced there once in 2000 and went 12.4, it was almost 5000 DA. At home I was running 11.7 with h/c, headers, converter, etc.

Fernando, please take it easy.

I've been looking into longtubes for a year now, its just hard around here with the cops.....like I said any exhaust modification at all and your busted usually....
I have a QTP electric cutout sitting at the house....if I do get LT's then I'm going to need a quiet, real quiet muffler for the street, and just leave the cutout for the track..
Any ideas on a quiet muffler...I've heard alot about the Borla XR-1 for bein not so noisy.....

If exhaust note is a problem.. maybe a TTI single turbo kit is something you could look into. That would make way more power then a choked h/c setup with manafolds, and you could probably shop around get some of the needed stuff used ( like fuel system stuff, etc ) and end up with alot better setup.

The stock motor is choked with manafolds, I can only imagine what a good H/C setup would run like without headers
