Default QA1 insatll questions

I just insatllaed a set of qa1 R sereis shocks up front along with 275 lb springs....

first issue is the shocks came with 2 bushings. one almost being a roll pin?? I didnt recieve any instructions and QA1s website is down for the moment.

2nd issue is ride height. With the spanner nuts set in the middle my cars wheels are rubbing the inner fenders. Can any one give me some ride height pointers??

Mine comes out if I set the bottom of the spanners 1 pecker length
(Actually 8", I only wish) above the lower cross mounting pin. Puts mine 1/2" lower than stock ride hight. The spanners will be a long ways up that shock.
Don't rember any "roll pins" with mine. Bought them over three years ago, and I'm old.

Good luck, Ed

Dunno what ride height you're lookin' for. I've got mine at 26" floor to fender lip using a 325# spring. The castle nut will be somewhere on the top third of the shock body.

Yeah with a 275lb spring your spanner nuts are gonna be way up top. Especially if it is a stock weight car. I hope you have done a little weight reduction. It was recommended to me not to put a 275lb spring on a street car because it will be very easy to blow a shock out. I run a 300lb and have done a little weight reduction and will lose even more this winter.

Its got a lil bit off the front. I have no A/C parts what so ever. and i run the battery in the hatch. weld wheels but that means nothing there. i will do a-arms and k-member eventualy.

And to get my ride height i had to raise the spanners up big time!!! Went for a drive and they make a world of difference!!! I can almost launch of khummos now!!!

I still have no clue what the 2 bushings were for!!?? Some other model??

Mine is all the way up with 275lb springs, all the way to last thread on the shock. I could probably use 300s but too lazy to crank them all the way back down again I have a k-member, no a/c and heat but 100lbs of IC and supercharger crap over the nose.

I have heard of several people getting a flat needle bearing and putting it inbetween the spring and nut. I have heard this makes it alot easier to make adjustments.

I keep mine between 6" and 7" from the bottom thread to the bottom of the nut. Gives me around two inches of clearance between the Tires and the fender well.

i have 325s/ r series on my m6 car with no swaybar and no ac

i drive my car alot and since i dont have crazy reduction i was told by madman to go with the 325...and they work great on the track and drive awesome on the street

i think i have mine set at 8 1/4" on the passanger side and 8 1/2" on the driver(just to even it out when im in it) it could be 8 1/2 and 8 3/4 but i have to check that

my car sits at perfect ride hight. i actually wana bring it down a 1/2" but i wana see if they will sag a little more first.

you have to watch out on the 275s with a heavy car and turing that nut to the last thread. you will likely have major coil bind going over any kinda bumps. it changes the rate of the spring.

Is there anything obvious on the spring that tells you what rate they are? I have a used pair going on the car and have no idea what rate they are.

Also wheres the cheapest place to order a spanner wrench? I didn't get one with mine.

I have the mine about 3/4 up from the bottom w/ a 275 lb spring ( In other words, I have plenty of room to go up more) and the only weight reduction I have done is taken off my sway bar. Rides great on the street and works even better at the track. I couldn't see maxing out the threads on the shock. Here is a pic of where it sits now and it is Tall! When I get my MT drags mounted I will be dropping the back and bring down the front.
