Any M6 Guys Running RCI's Universal Tranny Blanket? I plan to upgrade the bellhousing to an SFI unit when I upgrade the clutch, but if I'm lucky that won't be for another 10-12 months. In the meantime, I want some protection in the event of a "clutch explosion". I'm considering RCI's Universal Trans Blanket.

The car isn't daily driven but it does see semi-long trips. My question is this:
Will running this transmission blanket for an extended period on the street cause the transmission to heat moreso than usual?
I certainly want a little extra protection, but not at the cost of risking heat-related transmission damage. Your opinions are appreciated!

also interested. My bellhousing has a couple holes in it already, and I dont have the time/money/expertise to install a Mcleod SFI bellhousing. A tranny blanket would give me at least some piece of mind.

not sure if the 1/8" thick metal would stop it or not , my friends pressure plate let go at 6k, came up through the floor board (thank god it missed both him & the passenger), sliced his passenger side header open , put a good nick on the passenger cylinder head , and did a number on the wiring!
i would atleast invest in the RCI blanket , the McLeod bellhousing is a nice piece , but is a bitch when your on your back grinding on the back of the block making it fit ( dont ask me how i got involved in all of that
)

yes i have that blanket.
works fine, though i never had a clutch explode on me. i daily drove mine, and had no tranny overheating problems.
its a pain to put on, best way i have found is to loosen the tranny bracket bolts then slide it in, tighten them back up then attach the other holding brackets to the heads with bolts.

Welding steel to the tunnel is out of the question here. That is reassuring! Thank you.

I have the blanket made by Exotic Muscle. It is specifically made for the F-body T56. Go to exoticmuscle.com and click on F-body parts, then safety. They have it for $180. I am selling mine, used for about a month, for $100 shipped. It is SFI rated.

I have the RCI blanket on my car it fits fine. I don't really know if it would hold anything ,but its better than nothing. I will be putting my McCleod scattershield on soon though.
