Default Lightening a stock SS hood?

I was looking into buying a lightweight pin-on SS hood, but don't know about the whole look of hood pins especially since it's still my daily. Then I had the idea of cutting/drilling the the underside of the stock one. Then I wouldn't have the cost of a new hood, paint, and getting it to fit correctly. I don't use the ram-air part of the hood anyway so all that could be cut out. Cut or hole saw the braces and leave the latch/hinges.

Has anyone done this?

I've done this somewhat on my Z28 hood and it just wasn't worth it to me. I made probably 20 quarter-size holes and maybe cut out 1 lb. Another thing is, if you pop your hood, you have to look at a ghetto-rigged underside, which isn't pretty. And the more you cut, the less stable your hood becomes, and you don't want that thing caving in at high speeds. Also, I think the SS hoods are fiberglass so it'd take more cutting to equal the same savings as a metal hood. If you don't like the hood pins, just get a bolt-on hood like I'm going to do. VFN is running a GP right now.

VFN only makes a 3" SS hood.

how bout glasstek? i wouldn't ruin an OEM SS hood.

you can get enough out of it to buy a fiberglass hood and have some spare for the paint
