I'm almost surprised that is even legal.

I can remember seeing a post JS made a long time ago about how he took the side bolsters and cut them off, manly so he sould wedge himself into the seat I think, but he claimed it made the seat about 2 lbs lighter.

Have you done a before and after weight comparison? How much did you save by doing that to the seat?

Personally, I think thats a bit overboard for a few pounds. But hey its your car and your time.

I have to give props to those welds though....goddam wish I could weld aluminum like that! I can TIG the hell outta anything else, just can't get the hang of alum.

Overboard? Your talking to a guy who vacums his car before going to the track.
This and a couple of other thing i did, should put my car around 2730 lbs. i still have atleast another 200-250 lbs i can take out but that all costs $$$. The swiss cheesing was free.
Oh and the welds actually look like crap. i had to sneak the seats into my job, weld all the brackets up and sneak them back out during a 10 min break at work. I weld ALOT better when i take my time, but thanx for the compliment. Aluminum TIG is supposed to be the hardest thing to weld, but thats actually what i learned on.

I menat the whole car with the bolts... the motor ones would probably be the only ones not to shorten... but who knows.

What lese do you have that will take weight out of that thing??? If you already have it under 2800, how much could possibly be left?

Swap my BMR TQ arm, tubular A arms, tubular K member to chromoly.
Pin on hood
swap my Draglites to Bogarts or Weld Magnums
Fiberglass dash
lightweight rear brakes and deleat E brake
light weight spindles up front
deleat brake booster
Lighter steering rack and column
Swap my front VW radials to ET Fronts (probably won't do any time soon)
Pin on hatch (probably won't do any time soon)
Speedglass front and back (probably won't do any time soon)
deleate windshield wipers (probably won't do any time soon)

I daily drive the car so i probably won't be doing those last things till i have another daily and can dedicate this car just for racin.

Yeah i heard 8 lbs each, but with the spool and daily driving it they wouldn't last long. Maybe i'll get an extra set of super light drag wheels for the track and keep the Draglites for street dudy.

Just for you Juan

Not anyway near the low weight as your's but I think I did pretty good. The seats started out as the Kirkey economy aluminum drag race seats then I did a few little modifications to them. First of all we weighed them as is with no mounting brackets and the were 16# each. We made the brackets, mounted them, and I did a little cutting because the sides came up to far to get in and out comfortably. Then out came the hole saw. Man once you start cutting holes it's hard to stop. Mandy got on to me several times, but I didn't cut any of the structure or stresspoints of the seat's frame. After all the sawing they are 10.6 # each w/brackets.

I like the "RichardMotherFuckinBain" part.
I don't see a roll bar. And i wouldn't race it at the track without the seat braced to a cross bar.
