Default Dropped some weight=DAMN

Well I was bored today and decided to gut my Z a little bit.
I pulled out the back seats, spare tire and jack, and pulled the carpet up.

This thing feels a hell of a lot faster by the seat of your pants test. The tires let loose at around 25-30mph in a stock 10 bolt A4 with 2.73s. I'll pull the drivers seat out tomorrow to get the tiny bit of carpet left and then I'll spray in the liner.

This bitch is loud now, I might have to close up my cutout! BTW, do any of you have problems with a lot of heat in the summer? I have 5% tint and this bedliner is supposed to be an insulator so hopefully it won't be to bad.

What are some other big things I can get rid of weight wise in a daily driver? Is that about it before I have to buy aftermarket seats, tires, breaks, suspension and a hood? Thanks

Might as well pull out the dash so you can get that heavy *** passenger air bag, and the insulation behind the dash.

The biggest problem I have found with all this weight reduction is what to do with all the parts I take off? There is no way I'll throw away good parts, but I'm to lazy to part them out. My dad is getting pissed about all these parts laying around though. lol

Depending on where you live you could take out the heat or a/c , front/rear bumper supports, lightweight battery up front(or relocate it to the rear),cut out some unneccessary brackets out. It all depends on how civil you want to keep it, you could go as far as taking out the stereo, pw,pl, air bags, door bars. After all of that you will have to start apending some money for weight savings, hood, seats, rims, etc. Enjoy rippin her apart, I did !!!

Ya I'm going to hold on to my air bags until I get a cage.
Would it be wise to remove the bumper supports on a daily driver?? Is it safe?

I plan on relocating a light weight battery to the rear and getting a good light weight drivers seat.

What other "unnecessary" brackets are there? I wouldn't mind removing crap from under the hood, but how hard is it to drive daily w/out power steering?

EDIT: SpeedyWS6, I know what you mean. I bought this car from my dad and he came home to me ripping the carpet and seats out and was like WTF are you doing?!? Where the hell are you gonna put that crap!
....time to get rid of some clothes to make room in the closet

No. I hardly drive my car and still refused to do it.

Alright, I guess I'll look for other **** to take out.
What are some other not-necessary for daily driving brackets?

Edit: How much would lexan windows drop me? I wouldn't mind replacing my glass with that, as long as I could fab it up so I could take them completely out with ease when I pop my t-tops

The big brackets that run underneath the arm rests in the back seat in each side, you won't need that, all of the seat belt brackets in the back. I took out the one for the airbag sensor under the center console, but that is because I took everything out but the radio, speakers and power windows. For seats don't be affraid to get Kirkey's for a daily driver they are more comfortable than you think, I have a set of Pro Street seats that are very nice and comfortable, but not for very long periods of time(like 3 hours straight) I have heard that Lexan windows are not that good fro a DD but you might want to search to be sure. When you decide to get crazy with weight savings, let me know and I will tell you what wires you can cut out . Also look into a pin on hood, I went with a hinged cowl hood and I am now trying to sell it to get a pin on for even more weight savings.

I live in florida and took my A/C out and its not that bad!! Just keep the windows down. Also I took out the front bumper support, only because its my fault if I rear end someone and Im very careful so its only ur fault if you hit someone. I was thinking bout doing the rear support but i cant control if someone hits it (then Id really be screwed) all depends on how serious you want to go. Good luck with the weight reduction.

If your planning lightweight seats you might as well go with 5 point harnesses, then you will have no need for airbags

Oh and as far as the bumper supports, I can't bring myself to remove mine but I wish I could. I just keep picturing myself having an accident and being trapped in my car with the hot LS1 in my lap burning the **** out of my mangled, twisted legs. No matter how careful you are you just can't know what other drivers will do. Just my .02 cents.

My buddy took his bumper supports out of his 3rd gen and had somebody fab tubular aluminum bumper supports. Saved alot of weight and still has some protection.

UDLOSE- You have to pull the dash to get the pass. airbag out!

I am thinking about fabbing up some aluminum supports, because the front ad rear are so flimsy, I if someone doesn't think and sits on one it will come right off, and then their head will come off for sittin on my car

The guy who fabed up my buddies bumper supports builds sprint car chasiss' and also makes the sheet metal intakes that Johnny Lightning sells. You would need to find a metal fabricator who does aluminum work.
