DOT tire comparable to a 28x10.5 ET drag?
#21
The QTPs have a DOT stamp, my guess its for liability instead of just putting the warning on their web page/catalog like anyone does for DOT slicks they decided to put it right on the side of the tire. I have a feeling M/Ts will be getting that too in the future. I'm sure some shmuck sued them because they crashed with QTPs in the rain and said 'well they are DOT tires and didnt say I COULDNT drive them on the street so pay me for being an idiot and I dont care if I screw it up for the rest of the people out there."
I think the ET street radials say the same thing on the side if I remember, just not as large, dont have a set here to look at right now.
If you are careful the ET street radials will do fine at 1500 street miles 20 passes of you take it easy on the burnouts. Benefit of the radials is you can run more air pressure and tubes/screws are pretty much not needed, not to mention the decreased roling resistance. Six of one 1/2 a dozen of the other, I look at tires as being consumable, if I buy a set that suck I sell them for 1/2 price with a few pases on them or just use them up and move on, everyone's situation is unique and what works for some may not work well for others.

I'm personally fine with going thru a set with my use over the course of a year, I too look at them as expendable. I may just try the et radial out and see how they do first, then try the 27x11.5 qtp to see how that is as well, then go to a 28. I think this year I'll be o.k. without the 28, but next year when teh botle goes on teh 402 I'm in the process of planning out, I'm sure I'll need the 28 full slick to hook... along with changing the 4.10's to a set of 3.73's

Nice thing about the 27 is it goes right on, 11.5x28 ET street goes right on too. I ran 10.20s before I felt they werent holding but now I think I could go 9s with them. NMCA street race class guys are using them and going mid 9s in 3300lb cars..

The 28x11.5 et street fit without any problems too? That's a possibility then... geez I was thinking I had it down to a couple LOL
Regardless what I go with, they are going on my 15x9.75 bogart's.. if that mattters for clearance... I just hate that they are gonna have to be drilled for screws... Hurts to drill holes in a part that expensive!

The 11.5x28 ET street fits with no mods at all to anything, they dont work as well as a 11.5x28 qtp though. Probably close to a 11.5x27 QTP or maybe not even..
When I first bought this car it was lowered and pretty much stock and I was just going to cruise it and not mod it (that lasted one day lol) so I bought the 11.5x28 ET streets and a set of Bogarts and put them on, looks cool if anything

That does look good! I'[m not lowered, so if anything, I might have a little more room to play.
Looks like either teh 27 or the 28 inch QTP are gonna get teh nod. I have a hoosier dealer here in ct that I can get ahold of, guess I'll be giving him a call in the near future

A 12.5x28 ET street is closer in size then a 11.5x28 is to a 11.5x28 QTP. Nad closer in price..
m/T tires are a little cheaper then Hoosier. Cool thing about Hoosiers is the air them up and measure and mark them so you get a pair of tires thats the same. Dont have to air one tire up to 40psi and let it sit in the sun to make them even like M/Ts sometimes. You should always measure the tires when they are mounted to see if they are the same circumference, if not the car will pull to one side off the line and one tire will wear a lot more then the other..

KP do they ride like MT drags on teh street? what psi are you comfortable at driving on highway? say 60-65 mph? i ran teh et streets for years and never liked their inconsistency. i ran the et streets at 30 psi and thye were "ok"
also, what front tires? sportman pros? or regular radial metrics?

They drive just like ET streets, they are race tires and thats pretty much that so drive accordingly.. I run tubes and 20-25 psi seems OK on the highway.
I use 8 ply sportsmans on the front for street driving @ 35psi and it drives fine, I wouldnt try and autocross or open track events though

Dia: 28.1 tread width: 10.0 section width: 12.6
275/60-15 ET street radial:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 8.9 section width: 11.1
28x11.50 Hoosier Quicktime Pro:

*For reference 28x10.50 ET drags are:
Dia: 28.0 tread width: 10.0 section width: 11.7
**I know the ET radials are only a 9" tire, but it's closest thing to a 10" tread tire that M/T offers without going up to a 30" tire (which is not an option)

edit, since i'm not home..lol..I"m at my girls house..
I had the 275/60's on my supra which are also 28 inches tall and I now have a set of 325/50's for my camaro.. the 325/50/15 from m&h is slightly smaller then a 28x10.5.. like a 1/4 inch in width and height.. also, i've found that m&h drag radials seem to run smaller then mickey thompsons..

Nothing like voting and bringing a year old thread to the top
But since someone brought this into view, I ran 9.32 @ 146 (1.32 60') this weekend on 11.5x28 QTPs that have been sitting in my crawlspace for over a year (used) on a track all the racers were complaining didnt hook at all..
