Here's mine. ABS plastic.

Here's where I got it, http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=265-940 . They make different thickness', go with the thickest stuff if your putting any gauges or switches in the panel. I just ran alittle super glue around the inside edge to hold mine in.

I had an old direct TV box laying around, the color match ok, so I cut a peice to fit the hole and glued it in place. The flash made the color difference alot more visible, but it looks good in normal light.

I used the exact same ABS plastic as GM muscle.

I have just started relocating my nitrous switches there

If it is just the radio you are taking out, then for about $10 you can go to any Dealer and order the radio delete plate for a mid 90's Impala/Caprice Taxi or police car. Fits perfect and matches perfect.

I havea question.. those who removed the stereo, where did you cut teh wires off, and which fuses did you pull? There's 2 1 amp fuses for steering controls, I assume those get pulled for the stereo controls on the wheel, and I think 2 15 amp fuses too. Did you pull those 4, and where did you cut the wiring? did you leave the 4 wires for the shock sensor that sits in the back? I did, I snaked those 4 strands out when I started removnig the wiring last night, I have it all apart up to the point where the wires go behind the dash and I can't see them anymore.. I want to just cut them all off, but I'm worried about something shorting out if I do that.

pic's look good kp... but it's not answerign my question. I may just put the radio harness back and leave it in the car for now... I don't really feel motivated enought o pull the whole dash and get all of it out, and I don't want to cut wires and take a chance of them shorting/causeing a fire or something at this point. I took all teh tubing and whatnot off the harness, pulled the amp and the head unit, and all the speakers, I guess that will do for now.

The dummy radio may look good. But I catch myself trying to use it to often. Thats why I'd just put a piece of ABS plastic there. I used the ABS plastic to get rid of my HVAC controls and to fill the section where I used to put my tapes.

Thats because I wasnt answering your question

I took everything out except the alarm sensor too, I just cut the wires by the kick panel and covered the ends of the orange (power) wires with some heat shrink. Then just cut the rest of them so they arent even, taped them up and made sure they werent around any metal. As far as fuses just keep pulling them until something doesnt work that you want to work

heh, I never try to use it but a few others have tried to make it work

I used the power switch (plus a simple 2 transistor latching circuit) on the radio to arm my BS3 logger and the radio 'theft' LED lights when its armed so I know if its recording a pass.

I also left the heater control, the fan switch turns my cooling fan on and off and the 'mode' switch turns the EWP on and off when the car isnt running. Why waste perfectly good factory switches Seems like a lot of work but I only have one aftermarket toggle switch in the whole car and I think it looks pretty clean like that but some guys like the race car look...

I see some of you guys have installed the plates but not drilled them yet. If you plan to put 2-1/16 gauges in Bosch makes a hole saw drill in that size, they are the only ones I know that makes it, not even Lenox makes that size. The fastenal part # is 0236268, its about $20, not cheap but its good quality and saves time.

This is GM part number 10197485 (1994-96 Caprice "Plate radio except radio").

Less than $10.00 from the dealer.
