slicks and transbrake obsolete?

So do the slicks not "shock" the suspension/drivetrain as much as a radial tire. I've honestly always run a full slick on my RX7 (stock IRS) in fear of breaking parts with one of the new radial slicks because of the less forgiving sidewall.. or am I just being paranoid or even worse completely wrong.
