Default Inferiority Complex

Over on P.T.net and other sites I've seen some late model trucks that are running very impressive times(12.50's@106mph & 7.90's in 1/8 w/1.70 60'). These trucks claim no other mods other than cai, cam,lt headers w/exhaust,stall,4.10 gears and some weight reduction and of course a tune. This is quite baffling to me since I have a '98 LS1 in a '98 rcsb truck with the mods in my sig and very similar race weight and I am only able to muster a best of 8.63@80mph in the 1/8 w/1.90 60'. Is my '98 motor that insufficient that they can give up almost half a liter of displacement and still obliterate my 1/8 mile E.T. by 7 tenths of a sec. I want to upgrade to an LS6 intake and heads, but I still don't think I could catch them and even if I did they are still runnin 5.3's. Can someone please give me some insight and maybe some encouragement before I do something drastic! LOL

lots of things could be different. i would get a pulley and ls6 intake first off. and are you hooking worth a crap??? all the power in the world dont mean crap if you dont put it done. if you are running those big wheels at the track that is REALLY KILLING YOU. DITCH THEM. you dont need bling to go fast.

and no the 98 ls1 is not insufficent to the 5.3 at all.

Yeah I am actually hookin up pretty good, I mean I know I could use some lighter wheels along with some d/r's or slicks but traction is good enough that I don't think it would help me more than a tenth or so at best. Do you think the extra weight of the wheels is hurting me more than just having extra weight someplace else?

A 1.9 with a converter and gears, and a cam.....that is not good, probably should be 1.7, and that .2 in the 60 foot, will be closer to a 1/2 second in the 1/4 mile. Ditch the pimpmobile rims and get yourself a set of slicks/skinnies for the track, the results will convince you.

Yeah I'm only stalling it to about 1200rpm for fear of blowing the tires out from under it.

Most agree that the ratio actually works out to about 7:1. 1 pound unsprung is worth about 7 in sprung weight. However, I totally agree with the advice to ditch the "pimpmobile" rims at the track. Sorry, I had to re-use that word as I found it hilarious but appropriate. You will not believe how much some lightweight rims with good tires will help improve your performance.

I knew my heavy *** wheels were hurting me, but I didn't realize how much (7:1 WOW!). I guess that will be my next mod. Maybe some draglites or dragstars would look sweet. I was thinkin some skinnies up front and maybe 10" out back would look "PIMP" lol.
