Here are some quick personal examples
1)
70 camaro 355 10.71 at 123 automatic set up on kill for drag racing 1.43 60 foot wheel's way in the air.
All I did was put a Jerico in it 10.48 at 128 mph 1.38 60 foot spinning while it was leaving never did hook it with the leaf springs.
2)
My Dad's 67 camaro 355 ci 11.05 at 119 with an automatic set up on kill.1.49 60 foot
Put a Jerico in it 10.61 at 125 with a 1.45 60 foot nothing else changed.
Though I agree with TOTSO about a manual being potentially quicker and faster with a good/great/professional driver the examples here don't quite tell everything. A Jerico would offer quite a bit of performance improvement over a T-56 as well as the automatics set up on kill for drag racing. Jerico's are lightweight drag racing transmissions with less parasitic loss through it than even the T-56. TOSTO knows this but I guess when you're comparing Manual VS Auto you need to bring the big guns when you're on the manual side of this argument, right? Remember a few years back when a certain Ford publication switched from a T5 to a Jerico in their drag racing project? They did this for reliability but the car certainly didn't slow down because of this change.

Real world, average drivers. 90% of the time or more the stalled auto is going to win in a drag race given similar power or even slightly less power in the auto. 99% of the time the M6 is going to win from about a 60 roll unless the M6 guy cannot shift for crap or blows a gear or both.

To help answer the original question I'll state my experience with my car vs a friend of mine's M6. Him: mild cam/patriot head and supporting mods. 399 to the tires. Me: SI, little nick-nacks putting down 328.9. On average I'm running 7.7's @ 88 in 80 degree heat at the 1/8th mile track on drag radials. He's running 8.5's @ 88 in 80 degree heat at the same track on the same day on drag radials. If we were to both be on 10" slicks the time difference would be MUCH less. He's run as quick as 8.3 @ 90 n'change and I've run as quick as 7.4 @ 90 n'change in much better air last Fall/Winter. He can murder me from a roll like I've got a spark plug wire pulled. Can Evan Smith get in his car and beat me at the track? Probably. But not to many others can get in this car and do the same. Just my opinion and .02 on the subject.

For the track, I like the A4 with a big stall and DR's. Most of the time, it will out 60-ft the M6 equipped car which to me is the key to a killer ET.
