Default Density Altitude simple question, been a while!

Can't remember if the higher the density is, the better or the lower number is better once the calculations have been performed.

Higher DA = slower times.

Every 1000 ft of DA is about 1 to 1-1/2 tenths, depending on car, combo, tune and how fast she runs.

Good info. Thanks. I've never sat down with my timeslips and the calculated DA and found that out for myself. I think I've crunched the numbers with everything other variable in the world but never this one. Damned old school drag racer... I've just recently started using the DA to calculate the horsepower I should have available and gone from there.

DA = your "corrected elevation" for a given day and time. If you are at say 500 ft, but DA is say 1500, then the air is similar or identical density to racing at 1500 ft, which is no good lol

The higher the DA, the better the corrected number will be. Using Derek's notes for an example (1000 DA = .1 Seconds for simplicity):

13.50 @ 6000 DA = 12.90 @ 0 DA

13.50 @ 3000 DA = 13.20 @ 0 DA

13.50 @ 1000 DA = 13.40 @ 0 DA

I can only say from experience that 8000ft DAs suck big time

And people can hear me complain about it from long distances...

Not really other track to go, so it's just a cry for an excuse of still running high 12s
