Been there and done that with the tube chassied cars 15 years ago lol. Unfortunately it takes a few dedicated people to run a 200+ mph car and since I moved here I never found anyone serious enough to do a real car. There isnt much I cant do on a car, used to do my own machine work, transmissions, wiring, rear ends, tuning, etc. Had a couple guys at the shop that were great welders/chassis guys so I never got into building chassis stuff that much but I used to make brackets, trans crossmembers, headers, etc - wasnt my favorite thing to do though. I can also fix escapement (wind up) watches and fix older tube radios lol, two skills that dont get much use anymore

Its summertime here lol, I ran the car last weekend, 6.14 @ 116 in the 1/8 with a 1.420 60 foot was the best at like 3300' DA. Car wasnt hooking, import day, usually get like 1.31x-1.32x 60 foots at the same track when its prepped..

I have a 98 with a steel tank so I left it in, just made sure I didnt burn through the floor Most of where you welding above the tank is double wall so you dont get that close. I dont think I would leave a platic tank in though. I did melt the plastic fuel lines going to the evap canister on the drivers side. I thought I pulled them out of the way enough but they must have popped back into place and laid right on the floor when it was still hot of course. I ended up having to drop the tank to to replace the lines anyway though so I didnt save any time lol.

When I seen you doing yours I said screw it and went out and did mine, was going to wait until fall but thats the good racing weather around here and I figured I'd get it over with now. My garage a/c cant keep up when its 95 out so if anything I think I lost around 15lbs last couple weeks

heh, yes they are nice wheel studs lol.

I ran the car all last year and got pretty lucky with the 6pt as far people saying anything. This year was a little different, at the Year One event in commerce I let off it and ran a 9.85/133 and they said one more time and I'm out. Next pass I let way off and still ran 9.95 @ 118 and they said one more time and you are out for sure. So I let off completly at the 1/8 mile and ran a 10.88 @ 76mph and they were happy lol. After that I figured its time to do the cage and get it over with..

heh, last pass on the vid, you can see I'm on the brakes right after the 1/8. Didnt want to get thrown out. But I did end up winning the thing (10.00 index DOT tire class) so I cant complain too much

looks like your window net buckle is on the outside of the cage... might want to check but im sure it needs to be inside the bar to be legal.

It does, but I still street drive the car and I didnt want it on the inside. The rear mount point is far enough inside to be legal and I can easily move the buckle to the inside if I wanted to get it certified..

You guys catch everything lol.

If possible, could you PM me about the carpet as well... I'm gonna need to do something, I want to delete the center console when I do my cage, but unless I can find a good carpet that's molded to fit the floor that isn't cut, I'm gonna have to leave it.

Thanks.

Wonder what a good price to have this install would be?

This is good to what in the 1/4 and 1/8th? 8.50 and what?

I have no idea waht a 'good' price is, I was quoted 300.00 to 1800.00 to just have it welded lol. Pretty big spread there and since no one would actually do it didnt matter

I think 5.50 in the 1/8 is the fastest you can go without the SFI cage stuff.

Looks good KP. I figured you'd be stepping up to a cage soon after the 9's were invaded on a regular basis...

Great job kp.... cage looks great...... just so people know there is an option if you don't feel like punching thru your dash and it's completely legal.....

Chris Alston chassisworks makes a cage for the f-body that bends around the dash.... and makes a nice mounting point for the three bars to come together (i also installed rocker panel bars so it's technically a 12 point).... here's a pic of what it looks like.....

Most do like to go thru the dash but just thought of posting it to show there are optional ways as well...

Again nice install on your cage.....
