AN fittings in an a4?
any of you guys swap the hard lines to braided lines? i need to know what fittings you used.the stock fittings that go into the tranny are flat and the an fittings are all flared or tapered arent they?just dont want to screw up my trans case.help me out please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if it has 5/16" hard line coming from the trans, use earls #991946 (2), and if it using 3/8" hard line use #991947 (2). These fittings have the correct flare end on them to screw into the trans fitting, then it has a -6 male on the other end. I am not sure if GM uses metric tranny lines or not. hope this helps, if you need metic part numbers let me know, and I will give them to you.

For my 96, back when I was still throwing money away on 4L60's... I had to buy metric line wrenches to remove the cooler lines from the fittings on the trans... After I stripped the hex off of one using a SAE wrench...
So I know the line fitting itself is metric, the fitting in the case should therefore have a female metric thread... Who's to say what size the male part of the fitting in the case is though.
Are we talking about adapting stainless line to the fittings already in the case? Or replacing the case fittings all together?

thanks for the replys,i ended up using some stock hard line fittings out of a 700r4 i had laying around and the using a AN adapter fitting that is flared on one side and -6 on the other then had to use 90 degree swivel AN fittings on my -6 line cause there was not much clearence between the fittings and the trans tunnel.it would be alot better to find the correct fitting that screws into the case with out using the factory hard line adapter fittings +the AN adapter fittings i used cause of the clearence issue.i know they make them i just did what i knew would work cause i didnt know what the thread the case was.they must be the standard thread that is used in the th and the r series trannys cause it screwed right in.you can not use the fittings that come in the 4l60e cause the lines are a clip style not a flared screw type.i will post the fitting #'s i used as well as the #'s for the fittings that will screw directly into the case without the factory hard line fittings as soon as i can.so to make a long story short the AN fittings that fit in the old school TH trannys also will work in the 4l60e also without any special adapters and the you can connect a standard AN fitting with braided line directly to them with out the xtra stock style flare fittings.WHAT A PITA but its done now and looks really nice and will make tranny swaps alot easier cause we that have an A4 know all about swappin trannys,till we can live with out od and go TH350 or TH400.

thanks BLOWN SS for helping out with posting the correct npt size for the trans fittings,it will help people out when going to the parts shop in search of AN fittings,and i did forget to mention that the clip style fittings do unscrew out of the case,i figured everyone knew that,but then again i didnt know the correct npt thread size for the trans case until you helped out, i had to go around about way, thanks it will save people some time and money on swapping to braided line
