Default Question about Manual Steering Rack.

Does the manual rack have the same input shaft to the actual rack as the stock one?

I have a big problem with connecting my steering shaft on my new setup, because of the bigger headers. Im wondering if the manual racks input is moved over to the driver side tire more.

Well my new fabricated linkage looks like Madmans. But we have to get a U-Joint custom made for it to work with the stock linkage and input. I was just trying to find out if i went wrong anywere.

I have madmans arm and I was able to adjust the steering linkange location by lengthening or shorting the parts before or after the u joints. You may just need to play around with yours some.

Well, i have Heddman 1 5/8- 1 7/8 stepped headers, these things are HUGE. I had pacesetter 1 3/4 and the linkage all went in fine, but with the new headers its obviously different.

The linkage is all cut up and re done now, we had to extend the linkage. We ordered a new U-Joint this morning for the input shaft.

I had some clearance issues with the Madman rack + Kooks 1.875>2.000 step headers, I had the linkage redone a bit. Madman rack does not sit in the same place as the stock rack.

John,

Thats kinda the conclusion i came to.

I was trying to figure it all out. Tony Shepherd is using the same headers, but he has a manual rack and no heater box, his went in fine. Little did i know that you had to be !heater box and !power steering to use these.

I had my builder give a call to heddman about it, they never said anything to me when I place my order directly through them. There website doesn show anything about that either.

Back on topic. I was trying to see if the MRack was the same, and if i was just having some serious problems getting these things to fit.

The Madman manual rack that I have does have a different shaft location compare to the stock one. It is kicked out farther towards the outside of the car. Works perfect. I have heard of people cutting that #1 primary off the header and re-building it to work with the stock steering shaft.

!ps?

The Madman rack is a manual rack, so yes you would not be using your power steering anymore.

The problem is simply the Madman rack steering linkage was tight with one of the header primaries.

Tony, thats what i was discussing with my builder. I told him it was probly out more to the wheel then the stock one.

I didnt want to cut the header, so i decide to not make the last race of the season, but at least i know it will be done right.
