? for Guys with 8" converters

Default ? for Guys with 8" converters

I have a 4800 Yank lockup converter now in my 4l60e and I drive it everywhere (city/hwy). I'm thinking of going GM/AOD tranny with OD and a non lockup ATI 8" converter. Will I stll be able to drive it the way I want to or will it be limited to the track after it's installed? Do any of you guys run your's on the street?

8" Non lockup converters ARE NOT for the faint of heart or for those who see a lot of street duty. Without lockup or a larger converter, heat also builds up faster on the street.

Just a haeds up.

I talked to a couple of converter manufactures and they suggested a 9" non-lockup I just figured there couldn't be that much difference in heat between a 8" and 9" converter could there?

I used to drive my 9in th400 converter all over, I switched to a 8in and only trailor the car now.

Bain, Juan (sux2bu) daily drove his car 90 miles a day with his old 8" converter setup. i plan to drive mine plenty with the 8" ATI.

Yea I remember Juan did, but would it hold up to driving 2.5-3 hrs to the track race and drive back home?

i would think with the car being under 3500# and having a good tranny cooler setup (maybe with a fan or something) it would be ok. i'm running a b&m 34000 or 36000 with the braided line setup etc and never had any troubles.
