Just FYI: Weight of stock seats, power v. manual
Just weighed my seats and thought I'd share so I can help when someone searches this topic in 5 years (if search works then).
Power leather Z28 seat: 40lbs
Manual leather Z28 seat: 32lbs
As you were.

I have heard the transam seats are even heavier. Hopefully the difference in the stock power leather T/A seat to a kirkey alum racing seat is enough to offset the increase in weight from a 8 pt chromoly cage.... would make my life easier.

^ Haha. Thanks for the info. I havnt been to the track yet, but when I do I plan on going almost completely gutted. Meaning most of the panels out, rear and passanger seats out. Thanks to your info , I'd almost be taking out 40 lbs from my car. Good stuff.

More for chassis rigidity... and should I ever need to upgrade it to a 10 pt, it will be less work.

Did you weigh the individual parts of the seat? I took mine apart a month ago and weighed everything. Just the slider itself is 20lb. So if some one was to go out and get lightweight seats, and use the stock sliders they would only be droping about 5lb. Not worth it to me.
I took the seats completly apart swiss cheesed the seat pan, cut off the outer edge of the big bar that runs through the top part of the seat, and swiss cheesed the stock sliders. When I was done, the drivers side was 26lb, and the passenger side was 24lb.

Last time I took them out I put them on the bathroom scale:
Trans Am power leather seat with inflatable lumbar and bulsters [Drivers Side]: 46lbs
Trans Am power non power leather seat with inflatable lumbar and bulste [Passiger Side]: 42lbs
Thats the weights I got on the scale...
