Default Cam only record questions??

What are the keys to going after the cam only record? Just looking for some opinions on this. I see alot of cam only cars with some having much faster times than others. What seperates these cars that have alot of the same mods?

Well the car already weighs in at 2967 with me in it. There is still some things that have not been done for more weight reduction. It still has the stock K-member, a-arms, steel gas tank, etc...What about after weight reduction?

A good driver, weight reduction, every single bolt on imaginable. I don't know what the constraints of "cam only" is? If it's legal to change intake manifolds, then it should be legal to change to an ITB style manifold since it's technically just a bolt on. I'm just rambling, I don't even know what the cam only record is.

The keys I believe would be... Weight reduction, suspension, and launching.. What gears do you have?

holy crap that's light!!! with a stock k-member too!!

after that, it's dialing in the car on the launch as well as getting every last little bit out of the tune as you are going down the track. there's ALOT more to it then just making sure the a/f is dead on. i know Juggernaut and Magus probably have a hundred passes in just trying to get the car to 60 ft down in that high 1.2 or very low 1.3 range

The car's 60 ft right now is in the 1.5x. But the car has not left off the trans brake yet because of the stock 10 bolt still being in there. It has had a few tranny issues that are about to be fixed soon. It has been running a 4k stall and once the tranny is good to go and I get the money for a 12 bolt then the car will be leaving off the brake and a 5k stall. My understanding about "cam only" is that it has to keep stock rods, heads, crank, and pistons, right? So I can change out anything else?

here is where you can shed more weight at on that car, i know this cause it used to be mine).

plastic tank or fuel cell
get out the hole saw on the kirkeys(see sux2bu)
kmember and a-arms
fiberglass hood(pin on)
i would lighten up the core support some if it were me
cut the metal out from behind the front fenders.
abs delete
lighter brakes
could go on and on and on.

if you are wanting to go for the cam only record then

fast 90/90
electric waterpump
better tune
9" with anti roll bar 4.10 gear
bigger tires on rear
5500 stall 8"
AND SOME DAMN GOOD WEATHER

if you look at the cam only record list. the record holder made the pass in -1300 DA. that is worth a good chunk of time right there.

if you are going to try and go for the record with it ill try to help you all i can. keep in touch. GOOD LUCK

Thanks man. I think I am going to shoot for the record. My buddy is going to be racing NMCA so I will be going to alot of different tracks all around the east coast, so maybe I will be able to find the weather I need to make that pass. By next racing season alot of that weight reduction will be done.

Cam only is Stock Bottom End (You can have rod bolts but that's all), Stock Heads other than springs and anything else goes. Any intake, any cam, any fuel system. Smokin01T/A and I have #1 and #2 right now but I know I am out since My new engine with the solid roller is going in on tuesday. Good luck.

What class in the NMCA will he be running? Last year I ran O/C and finished #6. This year I might try street race but will not know until the rule book is out at PRI.

Congrats on the 6th place finish Joe, I saw your name a bunch when I was writing up race wraps this year. Some close losses hurt I'm sure. I think an LS1 in Street race would be sweet since it is mostly mustangs and 1-2 f-bodies.
