Default "thump" from rear end during launch

yesterday i headed to the track to make a few passes but couldn't hook at all, on all my passes i would take off and while i was spinning i could hear a loud thump like 3 or 4 times within a second or 2 coming from the back of the car

what the hell was that? was it just bad wheelhop or something else?

i've never experienced that before and it kinda made me nervous.

Check all your bolts to your panhard bars. I had a loose one on the upper and it made a bang when I launched.

Car lowered? Aftermkt T/A? Could be the T/A hitting the tunnel at/near the seat belt anchor plate...Wheel hop will cause this, especially if the suspension is such that the car does the "squat", on launch.

I wouldn't doubt wheelhop either, my '69 makes kinda of a thumping sound when it does that. That or you have **** in the trunk that's rolling around

Get a prybar and try to push the transmission away from the crossmember. You may have broken your transmission mount. I did this once and you couldn't tell it was broken without prying it upward.
