When is it necessary to upgrade the torque arm?
We where cutting low 1.30's on a stock arm we never broke the arm but we did break 2 trans tail housing and a tq mount every week we raced it after replacing the mount about 8 times I bought a BMR extreme tq arm 6 months later broke it in half
I still have my stock TA also. Currently cutting 1.60 60' but Im taking it easy on my 10bolt. Does anyone on here have the true duals with the xpipe that is right around where the TA mounts to the tailshaft. My problem is IF I wanted to get a different TA what kind could I get since the Xpipe is very close to the frame? Not sure there is a way until I change my exhaust.
I have LTs, 3" true duals with X pipe, and Sweet Thunder mufflers with dumps before the axle. I used UMI's chrome moly, trans mounted torque arm and it actually has a little more clearance than stock.
I ran very well with the stock TA and a poly bushing...The problem started when I upgraded to a Spohn trans mounted TA...I broke the tailshaft in half on the dyno...All I can figure is the stock TA flexexs enough to absorb some of the shock and keeps most of the stress off the tailchaft...The aftermarket stuff doesn't flex at all and transfers everything to the trans...
I have the Spohn cross brace mounted one now with 2 DS loops only for piece of mind...Adjustability is nice, too...It does hook more consistently now with everything in proper adjustment...Tyson was able to square the rear and get the pinion angle right..BUT, If you're hooking well then I'd leave it alone...
