Roll Cage paddin question

Is padding required on roll cages?

Nope. Some people just use as a preference to A. Keep their helmet from getting scratches and much more importantly B. Protecting their skull/brain in the event of a crash.

The reason I asked is there are some areas where there should be padding but my cage so so tight to the body panels and what not it cant fit around the bar.

if padding isn't required why does SFI rate some of the paddings?

It is required for like PS/FC/TF/TS/SC but in my IHRA rule book (can't find the NHRA) for Super Gas (9.90) it is not required. I'm under the assumption that once you hit 8.50's you need them (someone I'm sure has the exact number) but I've never had an issue passing tech running low 9's without padding.

Any place your helmet can hit must be covered. I use Jaz SFI spec

NHRA rule book rule 10.6

Roll bar or cage MUST be padded wherever it MAY come in contact with helmet.
Padding must allow a minimum of 1/4" compression or meet SFI Spec 45.1

It does not say anything about ET, it says any car with a cage or bar installed.
