So as far as coilover set-ups go, it looks like the people here prefer Strange over QA1. What about the springs that go on the coilovers themselves? QA1 or Strange?

I believe the Strange's use a top hat cup deal with a narrow spring that sits on the bump from the bottom of the stock coilover mount. The QA1's use a factory type spring that sits in the stock coilover mount just like the factory springs did but narrows down near the bottom to fit the adjustable perch. I like the way how QA1 has the springs sitting in the mount like stock, but which one is better for racing? It just seems more sturdy than the way Stange has their coils sitting on the factory mount...

I've got aluminum spacers between my strange's and the stock cup to take up that room you see, as sold to me by Billingsley.

Oops, I might see now the cup you are talking about, just doesn't show up very well in that pic...

For your LS1 type cars, this may be the reason. On most drag cars, look what's under them, or should I say,
which is more popular. At least, what I've seen in my year or 2 racing. Strange does make a nice piece,
actually have the doubles on my ladder bar set up. Good luck.

Can you get a better picture of that? I just got Strange Double Adjustable shocks with the required Hypercoil springs from Byunspeed and there is no cup/hat for the top of the spring to sit in. Is that part required???

qa1's work, but the strange wont leak on you in the longrun.
santhuff if you got the jack. nice stuff, and making an adjustment actually nets a change.

this picture looks like the one I posted when mounting my front shocks, I had questions how it went together also, I haven't had any problems with mounting it this way, I think its the only way with that spring

Default shocks

also if you mount the spring directly to the factory upper mount instead of like the picture, you get very close of running out of spring adjustment on the shock body

I had to send the QA1's I used to run in TWICE to get rebuilt due to blowing out the seal. I hate them. Nothing like driving on a dead shock cause it leaked all the damn fluid out.

I'm going Strange when I get my next set.

for all out drag racing, there is a lot of praise for the hypercoil brand. they are supposed to hold more "stored energy" than other brand springs.
compared to a qa1, they are about 25-30 bucks more each.

Yeah, see I didn't get that black piece that sets on top of the spring. I guess I need to get byunspeed to look at this thread and get him to send me that.

Are double adjustables necessary? are they more needed in the front or rear?

I just got the info from Strange that the springs and shocks pictured above are for a drag only set up that is different than the shocks/springs I got . My shocks are designed to use the upper a-arm just like stock .
Time to start wrenching!

For those of you with the Strange coilovers, what do you usualy set them at? I have the double adjustables all the way around, and I am not sure at what point to adjust them to.

With the rears I would set both compression and extension to the middle setting, as far as the fronts I would set the compression 2 or 3 settings from the stiffest and set the extension about 3 settings from the loosest.
