Yes they have to be sent back in at two years.
Latch here. I am one who gets pissed off every other year when I have to buy new belts also
I will also admit they can be a PITA to get all latched up in a hurry...so I don't hurry
They come apart just as fast as a cam lock IMHO.
I would get Cam Locks but it seems like a waste every other year.

SFI rules say they're only good for 2 years. The MFG. date is punched in them and it's 2 yrs from that date.
I have RCI camlock belts. They re-web and re-cert them for $60 and that includes return shipping and new hardware. They just re-use the camlock. If your buying new the RCI Platinum is a DEAL but IMO it's UGLY as hell. Some other brands I've seen will recert for less than $60 and some don't do it at all (Simpson, Impact) which is BS. But if they'll cut you a deal on a new one and you can sell your outdated belts on Ebay you'll probably come out close to $60-80 every 2 years to update.
I wouldn't have anything other than a camlock, it's def. worth the extra few bucks.

I'm old and have been on fire, I used the latch style for 20 plus years and got out pretty damn fast when I needed to. They only stocked latch style when I started so you got used to it.
The 2 year rule is one of the most asinine, I personally have never seen a belt fall apart from the sun in 2 or 10 years for that matter. A cut or damage is different, it should be removed on the spot.

No, a 2 year cert on a F@*KING WINDOW NET is asinine!
Anyone want to buy a used window net....still looks and smells new, I have a few of them laying around. SFI
And next year I'll be adding an engine diaper......another SFI rated product.
What a racket they have going.
Ok, I'll get off my soapbox now....

I did say one of the asinine rules, there are several.
They make us recert our jackets & pants every 5 years now, changed a year or two ago.
No bitch about diapers, trust me I wish I had one when my block split, was planning to, just too lazy. Same as a HANS, won't ever hear me bitch about either of those.
The nets, belts, cost for chassis tag ect I have plenty to say about. It takes frigging 5 minutes to sonic check 4-5 spots and most of that is the write up to recert a car that passed already, the damn tubes don't shrink.
Make that 2 soap boxes.
