I think that it has to have something welded to the cage, a solid brace or tabs to mount a brace is what I've seen.

The seat has to have a mount that is welded to the bar, or at least be mounted to a welded tab on the bar.

Okay I am confused. How and why does the seat need to be welded to the cage. What I have read in the NHRA rule book doesnt say that unless I have missed it.

What I read is that the seat has to be placed so that the drivers head sits no more than 6 inches away from the main hoop.

Your head can't be more then 6 inches from the bar that is true. Maybe the seat doesn't need to be attached.. beacuse there's guys with stock seats that don't have them attached at all to the rollbar....

Madman will know.

You don't have to have your seat welded to your cage, or mounted to your cage,
as far as I know,
but I know its a good idea.
What most people do and I am pretty sure its legal and the way to go,
is:
They have a small 2"-6" tube welded to their crossbar behind the seat,
perpindicular to the cross bar, At the end of this bar they have a flange with 2 bolt holes, and then have their Kirkey bolted to this flange, or mount, with some carriage bolts, so that they don't have bolt heads in their back. This way the back of the seat is mounted to the cage, which should help in the event of an accident.

I hope I described this clearly, its really simple. I have some pics at home,
let me know if you need to see em , I might be able to dig em up this weekend.

Aftermarket seats are required to be braced to the roll bar at the back. I don't the rule book infront of me but I know thats what it says.

guess my seats aren't legal then.. I only used 2 of the floor studs and 2 bolts on the rollbar.

I wonder if anyone will ever catch that....?
