Default custom dash......

I was thinking of making a custom dash out of aluminium. Has anyone done this ? If so what about some pictures.

Don't know why you would. The stock one is pretty light stripped down or you can get a fiberglass one. Also some EFI races call for stock appearing interiors so you may not be able to race in certain events.

^What he said. You'll spend less money getting one from someone like VFN then you would fabing one yourself.

You could reverse mold the stock dash and then make a carbon fiber dash like i did mine. Looks just like the factory one but a little lighter.

I'm building my car for my own personal use, I could care less what class I would have to be in or not. I want something different than what I have that will look neat in MY eyes not someone else's. So if anyone has done something like that please clime in so I can get some ideas.

I hope I didn't offend you or anything, certainly not my intent. Aluminum dash would look awesome if it's done right so if that's what you want I'm not knocking it but this IS the "Drag Racing Tech" section so I figured I would state some drag racing tech fact along with my reply and since you have a 9 sec ride I thought you might be interested.

Ha, I guess it's way of it's course. I don't have any, sorry but I will say I think it's gonna be tough. The firebird dash, like alot of the newer cars have alot of rounded lines and kind of mold into the door panels and I just think it's going to be really hard to make something that looks right.
I personally would do the stock or fiberglass dash and do some aluminum inserts around the guages and the hvac controls if aluminum is the look you're going for. Maybe you could make the top piece out of the aluminum w/o too much trouble but the sun glare might be a problem.

My idea was to use the top piece and from aluminiun around that, then square it off at the bottom so that the door panels won't look out of place. Or just replace the panels with aluminiun ones.

I planned on using the top piece (factory stuff) then forming aluminiun around that. So glare shouldn't be an issue (I hope).

I would not mind having one made from carbon fiber. The VFN dash is also very cool.
