Default Competition Eng. 8 point cage???

I was just thumbing through the Summit today and ran across the Competition Engineering Roll Cage kits and called for the price. For a mild steel, straight door bar, 8 point, is $186 + $90 for shipping. Just wondering if anyone has ran one of these and how heavy are they compared to Wolfe's chromeoly? I'll probably just endup buying a wolfe, but was just wondering. Also, what makes it a 8 point over a 6, the triangled bars from the hoop to the rear floorboard area? Thanks.

i am running a comp engineering cage in my car, its the exact same kit you are talking about. i got the 8 pt and only made it a 6 pt. it came out pretty good for it being my first cage to install. the thing i like about it is that you can put the rear bars where and how ever you want. i didnt know that they wasnt supposed to go there and thats why they are there. lol.

Yea, more pics if you don't care. So how bad was fitment? I'm sure the "high-dollar" cages fit better, but would it be worth the extra money? Also, does anyone know about weight? How bad is mild steel compared to chromeoly.......err however you spell it? Thanks.

The number I've seen tossed around is Chromoly is 33% lighter than mild steel. On a 10 point cage, the weight differnce between mild and chromoly might be enough to justify the extra cost. On an 8 point...eh, not for me.

I know I'll probably get flamed for this, because everyone on here loves to spend buku bucks on cages, but in all honesty, In my thirdgen car I had a jegs 8 point mild steel cage. It came to my door in 2 days, JIG NOTCHED, and it fell right into place, there was a little extra material at the bottom of the main hoop, so if you wanted that sucker right up against the roof you could put it there. It cost me $100 to drop it off at a local circle track racers shop and have him install the cage. Came out looking great for only $300 total IIRC. Great budget-minded choice I thought.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I'll be going with a 6-point also, and didn't want to give twice as much for one to save 10lbs. I'm sure someone will chime in and tell me why I SHOULD give the extra dollars towards a better cage. Thanks for the info. I'd love to see some finished pics if possible. Thanks guys.

yea, im on a budget build myself and was looking at them. If it adds 10 lbs ill take out 10 lbs somewhere else. And im sure theres gonna be ballers in here about the high dollar cages but if were on a budget so be it. Rather be safe with a cheaper cage then no cage IMO.

Im interested as well. I believe that the difference in weight is about 25 #'s for a 6 point cage and about 60#'s for a 10 pt cage. Truthfully i might as well save some money and loose the weight myself. Save money and get in shape lol

the kit that i got wasnt jig notched, i took alot of time and made all my notches with a side grinder and it came out great, all the tubes fell right into place. i will let yall know one thing, you will have to cut off alot of material from the bars, they are waaayyy too long. the kits arent weld up and go kits, they take time and effort to put in. to me it was fairly easy to do, i had to cut out part of my sail pannel because i put the main hoop as far back as i could go but if you move it up about 1" it will clear all stock plastics. the door bars fit good too. make sure you have your seat in the car when you put the cage in so you know where to have the bar at. keep in mind this bar isnt straight, it has a bend in it so it can only go one way in the car because either the door will hit it or the seat will hit it. i like this roll bar because it only took me 2 days of installing it and it only cost me 200 bucks to get it in. when i get home this after noon ill take some pics of mine and post them up for yall to look at.

ooh yeah, i only used 6 points with this kit because 8pt doesnt serve anything but added weight and a little chassis stability.

Did you have the Jegs or Comp. Engineering kit?

My Jegs came notched. Also, I see the extra length as a benefit, it allows you to put the cage exactly where you want it.

mine is comp engineering and was 189.99. i wish mine was notched and would have payed the little bit extra if it was. i could have prob installed it in a day if it would have been. and yes the extra length is a benefit, i did put it where i wanted it but it was so long i had to cut extra off. rear bars had to have 2.5 feet cut off each side.
