my argument is that unless you have exhausted all other options is that 4lbs worth your safety. After seeing a local guy crash last year and become paralyzed even with a cage, I just think that safety should not be taken lightly. If he can have that happen, why risk it for a 4 lb weight savings. Id just go for a run in the morning and lose the 4 lbs myself. Just my .02 sorry if I offended anyone.

If done correctly swiss cheesing can be done without compromising rigidity or strength. In some race cars, trucks and crawlers, where weight was an issue, I have cut and flared holes in frame channels to ADD stiffness. It's supprising how much stiffness flared holes in the right places can add...On the other hand, flaring holes in some aluminum can be tricky.
