Is this trailer worth $2000?
http://westpalmbeach.craigslist.org/car/315040781.html
I have found some that are NOT local (GA, SC, NC) that are like $2100 all steel brand new..but shipping KILLS me...
This really is close to me, but I think he wants more than it is worth..I offered $1900 cash in hand today, but he sais $2k FIRM....
I asked if it had dual axle electric brakes, he didn't know...I think he may be selling for a friend...
I also need to know, is steel that much better than wood if the wood is treated and protected well from the elements outside?
THANKS

for a wooden deck that is a ripoff.
I paid 2000 for a 18 foot open Brimar in CT a couple months ago, CT's expensive too compared to most of the country too. A new one was going for 3000, the one I bought was a 2006 model year, powdercoated, dual axle trailer brakes, ultra low loading height with the 4 foot beavertail on the back of the trailer.
I'd shop around some more... even if you had to take a 6 hour ride one way to go get one you'd be better off doing that IMO then paying a diem more then 1000 for that one. Wooden deck = good for bulldozers/machinery..... not cars IMO.

If you can find a wooden deck trailer with treated lumber I dont see any reason why it would be a bad choice if the price was right. I'd be willing to bet the deck outlasts the car you're hauling on it.

wood = heavy equipment...... I've never seen anyone move a car on a wooden decked trailer, I guess you can do it but the wood isn't gonna last as long as a steel deck will that I'm sure of. Especially a powdercoated one like the bri-mar I bought... that will probably still be road worthy well after I'm dead and gone.

Where are you located..... because noone in the northeast uses wooden decked trailers for cars LOL. And with the winters etc that are here... if the wood lasted longer people would use them.
fwiw I looked into one due to the possible weight difference, and the steel open center deck one I bought was alot lighter then a solid decked wooden one, and the difference from wood to steel was less then 100 lbs, so if a solid decked trailer was how I decided to go, it would have been a wash.
I wish I had another 3000 to spend I would have bought an alum. one, but they wanted like 5500 for a new one a little shorter then what I bought. The 200 lbs less it weighed was nice, but I couldn't justify the $ for the weight difference.

FWIW at work we've been looking at trailers (16wheelers) and we talked to 3 different vendors. All said the same thing about the wood that's used, good for about 5-7 yrs depending on how well it's taken car of before it needs to be replaced. This is assuming constant exposure to the weather.
There are a couple types with different life spans.
