Default Harnesses with stock seats?

I am thinking about putting in a wolfe 6 point rollbar into my 2000 SS, and was just wondering if you could use properly functioning 5 point harnesses with the stock seats? Any info is appreciated...thanks.

On a Camaro the shoulder straps have to go thru the seat to be legal (You probably won't get any grief if you go around the seat until you run an IHRA/NHRA sanctioned event and they decide to really check your car out). You can go over the seat on Firebirds, because of the separate head rest.

To be "legal", the seat back has to be fastened to the crossbar.

Theres a shop near my house called auto interiors. They charged me 300.00 for the two seats. It's a little expensive but I wanted to keep these factory seats and still use my harness belts. I guess the shop even did these for gm on a concept car they were working on. Most Upholstery shops will do this - just make sure you get a quote. Beleive it or not I called a top-notch-Upholstery shop for a quote on this job and they told me 1,500 per seat - not including the cost of materials - Mike

Is there some kind of plastic tunnel in the cutouts? Hard to tell from your pic. Regardless, they did a great job.... looks like they were designed that way.

I'm just using a hacksaw to cut it across and then a soldering iron to singe the fibers shut. Hopefully will turn out nicely, I can't imagine spending $300 on that when aftermarket seats aren't much more $. Overall looks nice though.

They actaully used cloth for the inside of the cutouts. It took him about 2 days to do both seats. They did a excellent job on the seats. Those 5pt harness belts work allot better now. - Mike

Only if it's an aftermarket race seat. Factory seats do NOT need to be fastened.
