Default omg lol

more teeth in contact from the pinon to ring gear means more distributed stress and this is achieved from a bigger pinon
what book did you copy that from???please read that carefully.....glad we agree....
look im not being a ***** take my advice...a higher gear ratio will break any day over a low gear ratio.....

Yea and when this poor kids c-clip axel breaks and he make a quick u turn into the wall,Your Fucked up advice on 4-10 gears in a 10 bolt being strong should get the highlight edition of the 10 -o clock news.I have been RACING for 30 years bud.360 hp broke my 10 bolt with 3.73 richmond gears!in a a4. The 10 bolt was made by Gm for a 2500 lb VEGA with a 100 hp motor in 1970.In a m6 IT WILL BREAK on the drag strip, take that to the bank! its good advice by someone thats been doing it for a long time.Moderators this needs to be LOCKED!!!!!

Well, thanks for advices guys. Well the 4.10 is already in there. What I might do is get a new posi unit and moser axles to make it stronger.

Hey NHRAFORMULA.. so how do You like Your Yank PT4400 ? Comapred to other torque converters You had in the past?

Yep, I've definitely broken more 3.73's and 4.10's than I ever broke 3.42's, 3.23's, and 2.73's. This is from a couple of reasons. 1.) The material is thinner on the ring gears so more teeth will fit on the ring. 2.) It get's the torque to the ground quicker (puts more stress on the drivetrain).

But what do I know, I'm old and senile as compared to the young 27 year old.

Back on topic, I would not continue to waste my money on the 10 bolt. No matter what you do to it, it will break sooner than a 12 bolt, 9 inch, or 8.8 will. After you spend $500 to change out ring and pinions and end up breaking them 4 times, you will just about equal what you can get a better rearend for. Been there...done that. I've learned the hard way to buy the good parts the first time. When it comes to racing, don't be cheap.

Good luck on your build.

book?? i dont need a book it is called putting an intelligent sentence together...guess college is working for me...when i say larger pinon i mean larger in size more teeth...which means the ratio is smaller like a 2.73 gear...

sorry to rant on your original post...

it is just funny how some people think i know nothing becuase i am 23 and they know so much more because they are 27...

anyways i am done posting about this...original poster good luck with the rear i wouldn't take it to the track if you dont have a spare or money to spend for a 12 bolt...believe me its not worth it...

Oh I know, I believe You. I am not cheap I can tell You that
It's just that I wanted to go to the track in couple of days or so, and just build it up a bit. I just need 5 passes out of it, later I will get a new rear.

Like many have stated..... DONT waste your $$$ trying to beef up a POS 10 bolt....
Lets see... back 6-7 yrs ago when i tried it by doing all that you said it kept breaking... the $$ wasted on axles was just that wasted....
3 sets of gear with 323rwhp with a 3500 stall and 3.73's....and 16" Drag radials.. the $1500 spent on that could of almost bought me a better rearend....
I say take it to the track and try and run it and hope it doesnt break...
Have a buddy on stand-by with a trailer or AAA for towing...
Its going to happen....no doubt about it....

I never said the 10 bolt wasnt junk...I simply answered his question....he asked what could be done to beef it up....I said axles and weld the tubes he already had gears....a good posi unit and a studded girdle will also help....never did i say the 10bolt was tough...never anywhere.....if i did please show me.....

and the gear ratio argument....well watever....an aftermarket gear is stronger than any strock gear...

to the op sorry to trash your thread...the net is full of no it alls such as myself...put a few of us together this is the outcome...oh yeah a set of c-clip eliminators for 150 bucks will be a good investment......
to clear this up a 10 bolt is very weak but can be made strong.however not as strong as a 9" an s60 or a 12 bolt....
