Default How much abuse can the stock aluminum driveshaft handle?

I am planning on going to the track in a couple days and dont have the $ to buy a better driveshaft right now. My setup is in my sig. I should be making just over 500 rwhp. I am going to run a set of 28x11.5 et drags. So does my stock shaft stand a chance at all?

Mine went and cracked the trans housing (not the tailshaft) in the process.

Not worth the trouble man. A better driveshaft is good insurance.

1.41/1.45 consistently and its held up for 2 yrs, In a a4 though. M6 id definetly get a steel ds. But run a loop regardless good insurance if it does go.

I've seen those suckers twist and beat the hell out of a tunnel and I pipe.
At a minimum you want a safety loop, you should also look at a beefier shaft.
I went with a CM shaft just in case

Keep in mind, the old LT1/1LE shafts are much stronger than the LS1 style.

I've seen quite a few 315 drag radial cars with under 450rwhp & M6 destroy the LS1 type.

IMO, I wouldn't trust it.

A big aftermarket alum one would be fine, or you can get a steel one if you don't mind the weight. fwiw I have a 3.5 inch alum one.

Mine twisted off with drag radials on a moderate launch.I wouldn't trust it, especially without a loop.

i broke mine when i only had a lid and cutout on street tires. and people here say this is the worst prepped track they've ever seen...

then again, ive seen them go 1.40 60's, and 10's...i think its alot like the stock 10-bolt; it's eventually gonna break on you, but for now, it'll either break or it won't...

twisted mine in half with under 500 rwhp on et streets. I was leaveing at 5k rpm on a very sticky track, but the car never moved, just twisted the ds and ripped the tq arm off the rear. I bought a stock steal one and put new u joints in and have been beating the hell out of it sense.

I think the v6's and the v8 cars with the speed limiter at 110mph got the steel ones. Dont quote me thou.
