Default Mustang GT500 question

I have a friend of mine who just got a new Mustang GT 500. So he says, they put the car on the dyno and stock it was 430 rwhp. Some work was done to the supercharger pully, tuning, nothing internal was modified, lowered the car, some suspension work and the rwhp went to 530. Then he changes the gear to a 373 and puts on drag radials (i think BFG). The best I've run is 12.22. That was at a shi#$y track (Lapeer) where there really is no track prep. Now he wants to go to Milan which does a pretty decent job at track prep. Do I even stand a chance here?

Sure...

Power doesn't equal good ET's or a win. There is a lot more to it than that.
Run him!

I agree 100%. There's a guy at my work with a GT500. I don't think he could beat his meat with it. Just don't read my sig. I'm not exactly the best driver either.

I agree. Just run him and see what happens.
I beat a lot of cars that I shouldn't be able to beat because I can get out of the hole and they can't catch me by the end of the quarter mile.

I'd race him right when you get to the track! don't give him any kind of test passes to get the "feel of it" but with a good driver and some sticky tires and everything being "equal" you will lose!

remember that is a heavy *** car... it's gonna need every bit of that to get it moving. If ya can pull a little weight from your car that he won't notice... he'll never be the wiser

Do it and tell me what happens! I've wanted to race one of those since they hit the streets and haven't had any luck yet. I always see them roaming around when I'm in my beater or goin down the highway in the other direction!

With your trap speed of 119.+ you should be deep into the 11's, with good 60'. Just get out on him and hope he can't run you down.
What clutch do you have, is it slipping out of the hole?

If that car is alow lowered.. chances are it's gonna spin even worse then it did, the lowering springs usually stop alot of weight transfer if put on all 4 corners (have to be alot stiffer to prevent car from bottoming out, therefore transferring less weight).

I agree that with a 119 trap you should be at 11.5 or better, get a tire on your car and go roast that heavy pig.

I called the guy earlier this week and asked him when we're going to Milan. This is what he told me. Now remember the guy has only had this car about a month now and it's been in the shop for all of this work probably 3 weeks out of that month. He says " Oh, I didn't tell you, I wrecked it". I said WHAT! HOW! He tells me he took the car over to a new subdivision on NEW concrete which had dirt and dust on it dumped the clutch went to redline hit second gear hard. The car goes sideways to the left and he ends up going into a ditch backwards at 85 mph. Gets out of the car, the aero stuff on the car is messed up and the rear end is knocked over to the right 3-4". There is 1/8" of dirt inside the car that was stirred up when he went off the road (both windows were down). The tires (he had just bought BFG G Force 18" drag radials) came off the rims somehow and it destroyed the rims. He's unhurt, (except his pride) however the cars going to be in for repairs for a few weeks. Hopefully it will be out sometime in September when the weather cools off.

it all depends on "IF" he can drive

I ran (with my gto) a guy with a 530rwhp GT500 (pully, LT's, exhaust, minor suspension work, and 28" DOT slicks) a couple months ago,
I expected him to beat me,
I ran my personal best (11.689@118.21 with a 1.616 60')
I beat him by about .25 sec
later in the day, he ran 11.57

Krautburner's 11.689. Terrible video quality but pretty fast goat.

sounds like your friends car is pretty equivilant,
but he still needs to learn how to drive (I've shaved .5 sec this year, without modifying my car)

That's my strategy, this apparently confirms my strategy in that I was hoping it would be a drivers race because I thought the car may be a bit too much for him. I know this now. We'll see.
