Default Rear Bumper Delete......AERO experts inside please.

ok so we all know the rear bumper is a parachute esp w/ teh supports out.

i was planing on making an aluminum bottom that went fromt the bottom of the bumper where the 2 push bottons were to the bottom of the gas tank and screw it in where the heat shield used to be.

ok now if your stil w/ me, theres stil alot of area where air can get up there on the sides.

what do you think about cuting holes in the bumper, nothing big. about 4 of them on the flat area thast above the liscence plate.

what do you think?i know it will work to release the trapped air im just wondering if it will look gaudy orlike rice.

thanks

Why not just cut a hole out behind your license plate and take the plate out at the track? Not sure if it would work, I still have all my bumper stuff. Just throwing it out there.

holes in the bumper cover would be very very rice... cutting out behind the plate and removing the plate at the track, or beter yet figuring out a way to mount the plate on a hinge so it can just swing open for the air to come out while you are going down the track, but could be pinned to stay down for street use would be neat and effective.

1st. If you have the bottom of the bumper blocked off (which is the best option in my opinion) why do you need to cut holes in the bumper to let air out? There shouldn't be any in there anyways.

2nd. Assuming you want to go this route. All you need to do is grab a rear license plate frame off of a third gen car. These are spring loaded fold down units.

im going to think about it more tommorrow and get some thin aluminum and see what i come up w/.

that is a good idea about the hole behind the plate

air will still get in there where the big open areas are behind the rear wheels.

The spring would have to be relativly weak to work right. Also, like stated above, there's still going to be a good bit of air gettign trapped in there thru the areas where the exhaust exit's out the back, enough to still probably have some of the parachute effect.

Personally I left the rear support in... only because I figured the weight over the back of the car woudl help traction more then the weight loss would help the ET's any... so before everyone goes ripping the rear support out and making plates, that might be something to consider.

Plus if you drive on the street.... it's one thing to say you will aviod hitting stuff by usign your head, but it's hard ot say noone will ever rear end your car, that's more out of your control.

my chassis shop is doing something like this to my car right now. He said it was a big deal at high speeds plus I am removing some off the wells in back for weight.

On my car, I formed a complete pan to fit tight to the bumper and wrap around the exhaust holes and all the empty spaces that air could get in. It was actually made in three pieces so it can easily be removed if needed.

The faster honda civic guys pick up about .2 on those cars so I figured it couldn't hurt.
