Default Seats large man ready info/opinion requested

Kids i'm 6'2 315 lbs because I like cold beer. I also am building my first dedicated drag race car. I need to know opinions on specific models or seats that will fit me in a 2000 Camaro with Wolfe 6 pt. I purchased a Corbeau Forza II fixed back - too narrow in hips. I see the Kirkey Big Boy 20 deg back in wide for a metal seat...any thoughts on that one. I like the idea of a reclined back. I may have to go to a reclining back style street version of somenes seat??

I can hlep a little, I'm 6'3 and and weigh in 270 to 280 depending on the day.... I'm running a kirkey 17in prostreet seat, part # 41700. You might be a little too big for this seat, but one thign you can do is bend it out some, a bottle jack will spread the seat out a good bit to help. The 20 inch one you are talking about might just be right though.

One thing that you can do (what I did anyway) is mount the seat right on the floor on the 2 back factory studs, and attach it to the rollbar. I have pic's of how mine are mounted, this will probably help you alot. Putting them on the floor got me back and lower so my head isn't so close to the roof and my knee's not on the dash anymore, I'm actually alot more comfortable in the car now then I was with the stock seats.

Hoep this helps, and if you need the pic's lemme know I can send ya a link to them.

Photos are always cool. PM Me a link if you could.

Do you find the 18 degree recline comfortable and enough? The Big Boy model has 20 deg. I sure don't need to be sitting upright - never could with the factory seats anyway. We have figured on cutting out the factory studs and welding in new plates and studs...no big deal for me. Thanks.

I find the 18 degree fine. You can always position the back mount farther back and use the stock studs and just let the floor of the seat bend as the bolts tighen, and it will be leaned back more. Before you cut anything out, get the seat and put it in the car with the rollbar in, and see if hte height and front to back position is good, that will help alot I bet.

here's a link, you can see the rollbar install, the seats and how they are mounted, and there is a pic of me sitting in one of the seats... ignore **** eating grin LOL.

Thanks - are the bolts in the seat bottom photo (jpeg 3?) going to the rear factory mounts?

yes, those are the factory studs that hold the back of the stock seat down. As you can see, I moved them back a couple inches farther then the stock seats will go, and they are LOW.

Well I followed the Kirkey seat measuring chart and feel like the 20" version of the Pro Race Seat will work well. Also studied the photos from JLWS6 with my mechanics. I'll try to follow my progress with a camera (try). Thanks again.

.

You can always cut and add some width if needed. I'm not that big, 6'2" 200 lbs, but I didn't like the angles on my seat, so we cut it up and rebuilt it so I was comfortable. Might be worth it if you can't find something just right. Especially the faster you go & the harder it hits on the launch. Good luck.

How about this: I am 6'7" 230lbs. I would like a race style seat, but all of the ones I have seen are only 36" high. When I sit down, my shoulders cover up the holes for the shoulder belts; and I am wider through the shoulders than the bolsters. I am glad I bought a cheapo seat first.
Am I SOL on a race style seat?? Might have to settle for the Corbeau GTS II I think it is that has the adjustable headrest and no harness holes.

I sat in my buddy's 15" kirky drag seat the other day without the padding ...... I'm 6'3" & 300 lbs. but I'm not too terribly wide at the hips. Needless to say it was a TIGHT fit. I think you'll be fine with anything 18" or over.

Stroud sells some nice seats made by Ultrashield. Several different styles if you don't like the regular drag seats.

I think that you will be happy with the wide Kirkey's. The ones that I've set in were very comfortable ( At least for a drag seat ). I need to pony up and get a set for my ride.

your shoulders should be above the seat belt holes. The belts need to pull you down into the seat.

OK Madman; but I cover the holes up. My shoulders are actually above the shoulder bolsters on the sides. I really don't think it will work to have this style seat since it is not all that comfortable and this is a daily driver.......

for a daily driver I doubt you'd really want to ride in a race seat.

I'm 6'1 and was 325 (on a diet and currently down to 285) and i'm running one of the regular plastic Jegs seats with the cushioned cover and that thing is more comfortable than the stock seat!!!! It fits my big *** perfect, haha, the stock seat my *** used to sit on the side bolsters and it ruined them (smooshed them all to hell)!
