Default Drag Light Wheels

I been trying to hunt down some results with out any luck. I am just wondering when switching from regular street tires on stock wheels to drag light wheels and slicks and skinnys, how much weight is saved? But more importantly what kinda 1/4 mile improvements are seen? Thanks

I hear the 17" rims are heavy I think i remember something about saving almost 20lbs per side on the front. Not too sure but I had draglights on my 79 Camaro with skinnies on the front and they were VERY light. Im sure the weight savings is significant. Especially being rotating mass. Sorry I dont have any exact #'s
Wow we both ran 13.20 @ 110mph with 340 rwhp. That was before the headers with only a lid, smooth bellow, ported tb and a hooker catback. Going back to the track wednesday now with the headers untuned. Hope for a better time.

LOL nice, yeah i went back but couldnt cut a better 0-60 foot. Thats why im looking into the light wieght wheels to put some slicks and skinnys on em. But i need to save money up for them and just wanted to know what approx gains might be seen.

When switching from my fikse 17" 9.5" wide front and 11" wide rears with street tires to my bogarts with skinnies up front and 27" QTPs in the rear I save about 90 lbs.

Also, doesn't JD have a killer set of bogarts and tires for sale? They used to be Bryce's.

It really depends on the tire. The wheels themselves are considerably lighter.

True. I have 15x8 draglites with Drag Radials. They are noticeably heavier then my friends 15x10 draglites with a slick. I think there are much lighter wheels out there then draglites. Also when running draglites you need to buy those huge-*** lug nuts which weigh a ton. Honestly, go to your local shop and pick up 5 boxes of those lug nuts (4 per pack), we are talking like 6-7lbs, plus about 50 bucks too. Those new wheels from billet specialties look promising (check JEG'S) and are not too pricey.

It's rotational mass so it makes a lot bigger difference. Taking off 50 pounds from the wheels and tires would be like removing 100 pounds from the car.

yeah thats why i was looking into this. I have the stock 17x9"s all around with 275 40's so im sure i can shed some rotating mass by swapping out to some light weight wheels.

It´s more like 3times the rotational mass diffrence

that´s why CF driveshafts, gun drilled axles,Lightweight brakedisks are so important

+1... what tire you go with can add a TON of weight. MT drag radials are insanely heavy. I know my buddies MT DR's 275/50 r15's wight 32lbs a tire! My hoosier DR's are 21lbs in the same size tire.. Bias Ply tires in the equivalent size are even lighter around 16lbs a tire. That is a huge difference.

Yeah check this out, my stock ZR1s with a BALD tire weighs 46lbs.
My Prostar 15x10 with Mt drag radials 275/60/15 weighs 49!
But the added traction will be way more than beneficial...but I was seriously disappointed with the weight. I'll weigh my Draglites with 26x11.5 ET Streets and see if theres any difference. I'm willing to bet there is...

It's funny how we pay outrageous money to get our cars as light as we can, yet we have to make them heavier with bigger tires, roll cages, other safety equip, etc.
