Default My new exhaust...

So I got tired of the poor ground clearance my 3" Magnaflows strapped to my headers was providing, and it was also still very loud. I bought a 4" Magnaflow (straight through just like my 3" ones), a Flowmaster Y pipe (2-3" inlets to one 4" outlet), and had my buddys muffler shop run 3" piping from the headers to the Y pipe, stuck the muffler on the Y pipe, and put a dump on it at the rear axle. We beat the floor in some to get better ground clearance at the muffler.

This is by far the best exhaust setup I've had on the car. Its very quiet (relatively speaking of course) and has great ground clearance. The car runs so much smoother now its crazy. I never thought just changing the exhaust could change the way the car drives but it did.

I don't think this system is much heavier than the 2 mufflers I had on it before, maybe a few lbs but its worth it. It sounds really mellow at idle and light acceleration, but get on it and it screams pretty good.

I suck, I have no pics. When the weather breaks I'll get pics and a video.

Did you go with the 6" round or the 5x8? Did you have to beat in the floorboard for clearance? I would like to run one on my new setup, just wasn't sure about how well it would fit. Got any pics of how well it fit under there? Thanks

I used the 5X8 muffler. I could have fit it on there without denting the floor in but one of the main reasons I did this was for ground clearance, so I hammered the floor in.

I'll get pics and video soon, too much snow now!

Yeah I saw that winter storm stuff that went just north of us hit you guys pretty hard the last couple days. I'll probably run the same on the turbo setup, and hammering in the floor isn't a big deal as I have a 6 pt in the car now and no back seats. Did you use a piece of wood and hammer on that up against the floor or what? Don't want to put any holes in the floor

haha, ya this snow **** sux, we got hit pretty good here. how raspy is the exhaust, cause thats the main thing i want to avoid, and how much does it drone on the inside.

a cammed 402 isny very quiet with this true dual setup with bullets, it vibrates **** in my garage. i love how it sounds, i want to quiet it down a little bit, but i dont want to get any rasp. i hate that sound so much, but i want to go with a y-pipe to get room back for a torque arm

I haven't beat on it much because I had to remove my gauges so I can't see them right now. I hate beating on an unmonitored engine. I don't think it has any rasp, but my car at WOT is so loud anyway I couldn't tell.

I beat the area in where the inside edge of the passenger side rear seat is , I don't have any rear seats but I could still reinstall them if I needed to. I just used a 2 lb sledge, no wood.

theres no rasp at normal driving, like that sweet spot where it sounds like complete ***, that was the main reason i went true duals, and the rasp was gone completely, and thats not something i want to get back

I have been running the same thing for over a year, its not raspy at all, not exactly quiet but seeing I ran 8.90s @ 152 with it on the car it must flow OK. I am using a split flow muffler, its a Borla XR-1 copy more or less.

Thumbs up

I run the same setup as well, but with a XR-1 muffler. I had the Mags off the headers for about 3months and couldnt stand it any longer than that. I like the sound a lot better than when I had my TSP true duals, which I would of never taken off (because I loved them at the time) but ran into clearance problems when I put in my Wolfe torque arm.

How much quieter is the 5x8 Y-pipe setup than the 4x9's off the headers? I like mine off the headers, but I would like more ground clearance.

Yep. I fired it up on the lift to back it out of the exhaust shop and was really happy with how smooth (no more car shaking like a pro stocker) and quiet it was. My buddy who owns the shop was outside the car and he looks at me and says "Thats loud!". I was like "****, you're crazy, its quiet!". Outside the car its still pretty healthy, but interior noise was greatly reduced and the car drives MUCH smoother. I was beginning to wonder if I had trashed a motor or tranny mount before, but it was just the exhaust.

I didn't know so many people ran this setup, pretty cool. I saw one car with it and decided to try the mufflex system, but instead just saved the $$$ and did this.

You guys should try this magnaflow muffler, its 100% straight through but seems pretty quiet.

Its over the third rib, you are more that welcome to come over and try to get it on all the way. I'll bet 100 dollars I could tow a school bus with that line and it wouldnt come off lol. That -12 stuff it a bitch.

i might try the magnaflow muffler, I wouldnt mind being a little more quiet but this isnt that bad really. I had a 4" bullet on here at first and man that sucker was loud.

I'm thinking about stepping the 3" DP that comes with this turbo kit up to a 4" and running a dynomax bullet where the stock cat was, and running this muffler back under the backseat where you've mounted yours. Sounds like a good plan to keep the good flow but get rid of the sound. I definitely want this thing to be tame until WOT
