Default How many people have trimmed the steal under the windsheild?

I'm thinking of trimming the cowl and welding a panel in to fill the hole. I just don't want to remove the windshield. It would make getting the motor in and out from the top a little easier. Plus I will be running a dizzy.

I was even tempted to trim the whole bottom side off of it to the fire wall.

It isn't a direct shot but you can see a bit.It is cut all the way to the windshield(windshield is out) and welded up.Gives a ton of room.

mine is cut all the way to the firewall on the bottom. it has been open like that for a few years with no problems. you gotta have those access panels in place on top of the dash on both sides so engine heat doesnt come pouring through the dash. it just looks unfinished from the outside. i will be welding it all up similar to Slohawk's pretty soon.

Don't get confused, you can take the motor out the top without cutting any of it, but with it cut it makes the task very easy.

This ii the best looking way I have seen it. I just don't have the time or money to have the windshield pulled out and reinstalled.

Doesn't get much better then that.

Here are the pics of mine that I did over a year ago. The last 2 pictures are from this fall when I installed the drysump system and the the nitrous setup.

SMKN thanks for the pictures. Looks good too. Did you mig weld or tig the panel in? I assume that since the tape is on the windshield you did not pull it out during the welding?

Very nice work. I like the idea of cutting out the stuff up under the windshield as well. Should make it pretty easy to get the motor in and out, and service the engine.
