Here are two NHRA rule links to check-out. The 2008 rule revisions and the ET Quick Reference Chart. Now sure why it says 2006 on the chart??? It is from their current rules webpage.

so it's mandatory on 150 mph or faster, which has always been my understanding. Last thing I want to hear about at this point is having to put one on a 9.5x car..... even @ 139 mph on the stock brakes and when I say stock, I mean the factory equipped rotors and pads (only 19K on the car though LOL) the car would just about stop for the first turnoff @ 1/2 the tracks I've been to, with the slicks and skinnies ifI got on the brakes hard enough.
Now with the drag brakes I expect that to not be the case, but nowhere near to the point that a chute is needed.....

Remember the chute rule: When in doubt, pull it out!

Parachute is 150mph, that chart is just general and it says right on the top the rulebook supersedes anything on the chart.
As far as using the chute, if its required it should be used according to tech guys I have talked to. Some people dont use them, even at national events, but some tracks have a lot longer shutdown then others..

Unrelated but curious.
I'm going to be fast enough to need to pull the chute this year, do you all pull it before you lift or can it work fine pulling it after you lift?

.
NEVER pull after. You should always be underpower. We've been through this many many times.
You might be fine 100 times, but it only takes once. My 2 cents & many many others. Good luck & be safe.

either way I need to put one on....but I need to do some fab work to put it on, I think I am going to put the release on the diagonal bar in the roof, I dont have a funny car cage. I thought about an air launcher, but I dont have a co2 bottle for anything, but the big red whoa button would be hard to place, unless i put a coil hose on the steering wheel (removable).
