Here are two NHRA rule links to check-out. The 2008 rule revisions and the ET Quick Reference Chart. Now sure why it says 2006 on the chart??? It is from their current rules webpage.

Now with the drag brakes I expect that to not be the case, but nowhere near to the point that a chute is needed.....
I believe the actual intention of the chute requirement is for emergency situations, if or when they occur on the track. For example; Super-Comp dragsters (8.90 @ 165 MPH) have chutes, but rarely if ever deploy them during races. Although, the chute is there if something goes worng.

Remember the chute rule: When in doubt, pull it out!

So per the quick chart you need a chute 9.99 or faster, 150mph only applies to 10.0-10.99? Correct me if Iam being a tard.

it used to be like 140-145 mph so 150 mph is better.

Parachute is 150mph, that chart is just general and it says right on the top the rulebook supersedes anything on the chart.

As far as using the chute, if its required it should be used according to tech guys I have talked to. Some people dont use them, even at national events, but some tracks have a lot longer shutdown then others..

The "requirement" is to "have" the chute instaled for emergencies. There isn't a requirement to pull it on every run.

If you pull a chute in an emergency only its most likely too late. Its not like a fire system where the car MAY catch on fire, the car DOES have to stop every pass.

Unrelated but curious.

I'm going to be fast enough to need to pull the chute this year, do you all pull it before you lift or can it work fine pulling it after you lift?

.

NEVER pull after. You should always be underpower. We've been through this many many times.
You might be fine 100 times, but it only takes once. My 2 cents & many many others. Good luck & be safe.

So you pull the chute with your foot in the pedal still? I've never heard of that, but then again I've never asked either.... please elaborate, I just want to understand why

Good info there... bottom line, if you need it on teh car to pass tech, then you should use it every run.

either way I need to put one on....but I need to do some fab work to put it on, I think I am going to put the release on the diagonal bar in the roof, I dont have a funny car cage. I thought about an air launcher, but I dont have a co2 bottle for anything, but the big red whoa button would be hard to place, unless i put a coil hose on the steering wheel (removable).
