Am I crazy with this gear selection
Ok, really wanna go ***** out this year and have a fast cam only car... Got a 9 inch so gear selection is prime. Thinking about a 4.71 on a 28 tire. With a guestimate of 3400lb vehicle (took some weight outta the front...) and a 410 hp it puts me through the trap at 6800 rpms and at 11.20 or so. I do still drive this car on the street, is that gonna be too much? I dont really wanna make it completely undrivable? Any advice?

Ya its a 6 speed... I think Im gonna leave myself a little room to breath and just do the 4.56 on a 28 tire. Afterall its a 9 inch so its very easy to change gears!

Run the car first and see what mpg you run, then you'll have a good figure where you need to gear it, it's hard to run too much gear with a 6 speed on the street, it has a 0.5 6th gear, you could run a super high 6.0 gear and still only be a 3.0 final gear ratio.
If you're going for all out motor performance, stick a 28 or 29" tire on it with as much gear as you can run.
I plan to run 5.29's in my next rear

My TH-400 car has 3.73's with a 28 inch tire, nitrous car and from what I can tell its a really good match with the cam.
With a 4.71 and a 28 your gear ratio in the end will be higher. I can't remember just how much it adds but like Ragen said, more tire height adds gear.

Well... I wish I had the luxury to have both sets of tires to run this year... Tighter budget since Im still in school. I went ahead and got the 4.56, I think that will be a good one incase the car doesnt hook the best, dont wanna run outta gear cuz the car doesnt hook perfect. Time to put the 9 inch together and get the 28s mounted!
