Default Th400 with 4.30s?...

I recently installed a 9" with a spooled 4.30 setup. I am currently a T56, but am looking into going TH400 or TH350 (F-Body hydraulics have left me with a bad taste)...I am assuming I am WAY screwed with that deep of a gear if I ever want to touch a freeway?...What gear ratio would you recommend? I have no problem going with large rear tires, but they have to fit without tubs. Advice?

With 4.10's and a 28 inch tall tire I didn't find it to be too bad, with a 5400 rpm n/a converter I was at about 3400 rpm @ abotu 65 mph.

3.73 and a 28 inch tire, and a converter that isn't too loose you probably would be around 3000 rpm. For a power adder car that would be fine, n/a it's not gonna be the fastest it could be, but it will be reliable, and will still run decent.

I hear ya on the M6 woe's, I ditched it when the big motor went in my car 2 years ago, and I don't regret it one bit. I can only imagine the parts I would have broken if I had left the M6 in the car.

So Im looking at trailer time to get to the track. But fine for around town, local driving? I only have experience with lockup cars, just how bad does the heat get to A3s since they never lock?...

with a good converter and cooler, the temps will be around the same as a 4l60e.
Mine tends to be a little cooler.

Mine will see 200 on the street, but I have a csr shield on it and a 5400 converter in the car, so it's a little loose.

I don't drive the car on the street anymore, but I do have something I am gonna try to see if it helps with the heat. I have a big tranny cooler, but that also is going to get moved in an attempt to keep the tranny a little cooler (cooler is currently right on the radiator)

What would my theoretical trap RPMs be with my 4.30 gears on 26"? 28"? Tires....Just on motor with a TH350 or 400. Are the 4.30s too much?..

Actually i would recomend stepping up in gear to a 4.56 gear ratio b/c you wouldn't want a sprayed mustang beat you.

do a google search for rpm calculator. Don't forget 6-8% slippage to add to the rpm #'s

I have a 400 with a 3.73 and a 28 tire, at 65 I am close to 3000, want to say 3200 max. Nitrous car also, thats why it does not have more gear.

i run a 4.33 gear and a 28" tire.
it buzzes a tad over 4K on a stock 4th gen tach at 80mph.
you WILL need a 29" tire to make 1/4 mile, depending on what rpm you turn.
i picked up .07 hundreths from a 3.70 gear. car reacts much quicker at the track, and actually hooks up a lil better on the street it seems.
