Default Everyones thoughts on the !front bumper issue...

I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I should get rid of the bumper supports. They are good for 40+ lbs so that definitely is a plus. The safety issue bothers me mildly but then again I was in standstill accident a couple years ago when I was pushed by an F150 into a car sitting in front of me traffic. The supports were destroyed but I guess did do their job...

What are your guys opinions on the matter? The car is driven at most 2000K a year so not a ton of daily driving is done but at the same time it isn't an all out drag car...

Mine has been out for about 6 months, and I drive in Atlanta traffic on a daily basis. Don't expect to lose 40 lbs though, mine only weighed 18 or so. I can't possibly see where it would help in a collision. It's pretty wimpy.

no problems at all removing the front support. but as long as i drive the car on the street, ill keep the back one. its the last thing between that car hitting you and your gas tank.

Yeah, I have no front support, I removed the rear, but was never comfortable without it, so I put it back in. Also, on my T/A, the rear fascia moved around a lot at speed without it.

If it was me, I would take them out. 2,000 miles a year is not much street driving. Hell, Iam a very different KAT!

Just be careful.

I agree. If you ever seen burn victims you wouldnt want to take any chances leavin the fuel tank exposed. Plus getting rearended isnt something you can really avoid. However if you take it easy on the streets you can avoid hittin people with the front. So you can get away without the front bumper.

With the incident with F-150 his insurance would have covered the damage since he was at fault. The 20lbs off the front isnt that much weight but it comes off the best area to remove weight.

I drive mine around 5 or 6k miles a year and I decided to leave them in. I'd love to lose the weight but I figured the extra half of a tenth wasn't worth the extra risk of having them there.

I'd leave the rear. That weight is in the best place possible for helping you to hook up.

The front I'd remove, especially no more driving that you do. That weight (over 20 lbs) is in THE WORST possible place.

is it just me or are the newer ones lighter. Had to take my car to the body shop b/c of some drunk *** who hit it parked. Anyways, front was off, and the support was foam. A friend of mine (cant remember year) has a support made out of molded plastic, much heaver. Or is there something behind the foam.

There's metal behind the foam.

if you remove just the foam you remove barely any weight at all.. You need to remove the entire assembly that's held on by 3 bolts on each side.

i would like to see that tubular kit bmr put on their turbo car for sale, thing looks awsome. It's made to support the bumper at their projected 140+ trap speeds.

Watch this and see what happens to your front bumper with no supports. Check out how much it flares out on the sides from being pushed in up front. http://www.turbols1.com/video/972.wmv

The only thing that you'll have to worry about with the front support is in an insurance claim, your fault or not, an insurance company can try to deny the claim due to tampering with safety equipment.

Since I don't visit the track every weekend, I just take it out before I go...kinda part of the track prep in my mind.
