Block/tranny heaters
They have some that stick to the oil pan and to the tranny pan and one that goes in place of a freeze plug, using one on each side gets your coolant to 100 degrees in an hour. The others are just like bottle heaters.
Your thoughts?
I like the idea of having some good temps in the tranny and block before I start it up.
For insurance I thought about the tranny heater, oil pan heater, and freeze plug heaters........
All fluids but the rear would be up nearly to temp.

Keep in mind the new motor will be up there in compression and power, will have some money in it hahaha and its not driven a lot, run synthetic in the motor and will have straight water.
My thoughts & past uses.
On the 706" dual freeze plug heaters. Used to warm up block when racing. If engine is still together
whenever it was 50 degrees or below, left plugged in, 24/7. That's why a lot of guys with big engines like that
tear them apart even when the weather is still semi decent. Reason was, you don't want a big block like that
shrinking up & hurting something. Clearances can get very tight when that cold. I was taught by someone I trust,
it's a must.
On normal engines, heaters for the tank is enough. Steel blocks don't shrink as much.
2-3 probes per tank. You have to run to get heads, crank, rods, pistons ect warm anyway. So I don't bother with block.
The trans nothing. Rear end nothing. We do warm up at the trailer before going anywhere.
Don't forget, once you get some power, you won't be out there when it's cold.
I don't really think you need all that. Warm up engine before you do anything & the oil, trans & rear will be fine.

I ruined my 408 shortblock racing during December a year ago.. I warmed the car up and drove it around the pits, but still somehow spun a bearing. Not 100% sure that it was the cold weather/50w oil that did it, but I definitely wonder..
Btw.. I am a KATZ dealer and they manufacture all kinds of heaters so if any of you guys want one just let me know via PM..
We just did put a block heater in mine. Just one (the freeze plug kind) and it takes a while to heat up but it's nice to start it up with some heat in it because it fires right up. I wouldn't worry about one for the tranny personally.
I forgot to mention, I do have one of those big magnet heaters, just for winter warm up's when the engine was much milder. Now they get torn apart every fall. Bought it at farm & fleet. Works great, as said, it will take awhile.
If you guys race in the cold, I would do something with straight 50. I doubt it's a major issue, but why risk it.

Honestly I think I will use them before I fire the car up (if it was not runing earlier in the day).
Why risk it.... Ill have quite a bit of money in this new motor...... not as much as you but it still hurts writing those checks hahaha.
Have any extra lube???? I am about to run out hahaha.
