Launching a 2002 Z-28

I have a 2002 Z-28 with an auto.
What has worked best for some of you leaving the line? Do you take the RPMs up or launch on idle?
Also manualy shifting or letting the car go on its own?
I will be running drag radials so I should hook just fine.

generally it is best to leave at idle (converter works better this way), and just leave the car in "D" and let it do the work.

just let it idle with your foot on the brake...bring the rpm up slightly just to load up the car...stab the gas on the 3rd yellow

stock verter.. bring it up to 1500, at 1600 it preloads the car.... i was doin good at that rpm and the car was consistant. Especially if your tryin to bracket race you need to be up on the converter to cut a decent light.

it depends on the converter i have a 4400 and it likes to leave best at around 2300--2500 preload... so it is all about trial in error and making a lot of runs

Thanks Guys!! My car is stock. I have put a lid on it but that isnt much.
It is far different than when I was running my Chevelle. I have always had the muscle cars and am just getting used to the new cars. I did see how well these cars can run at the LSX shootout in Memphis last year!!

I agree with just coming up on the converter until you can "feel" (800rpm) it and then stab it on the last yellow..you may need lower control arms if you get wheel hop off the line.
