under F-frender metal removal
Does this steel panel under the fender (the outer skin, not the inner where the fender actually bolts on) actually support the fender or is it simply part of the structure of the car? I am going to run the roll cage through the firewall and past the upper lip (where the fender bolts on) so unless this panel actually supports the fender skin in some way, it is no longer of any use (needless weight).
I should note:
The inner fender is going to be 100% removed and no suspension connects to this. I am also in the process of building a nose-to-tail frame that will be grafted into the body. In short, the body is simply going to be a "body" and as such is not being used to provide structural support (though it will be welded to the frame and as such the passenger compartment will provide rigidity). In short, think tube chassis car.
Attached pictures of the metal I am referring too. The red outlined area is the section I wish to remove.

.....guess we need a "if you hack of your car, post pics" thread
building a road race/open track/pro touring...ish kind of car (best way to put it)... it has been a steady progression, as more stuff came off, the more I wanted to cut off, so now that it's an empty shell, I'm finally building it back the way I "always wanted it" ... in short...too much time on my hands
