Default 9" Question

I just installed my 9" w/ 31 spline trutrac from EPP this weekend.. From the people I've talked to, I understand it's good to about 600RWHP..

I know there's tons of threads floating around, but I'm curious how many of you guys have actually broken these... And what power level/what were you doing??

Also.. anybody running over 600HP using one of these with no problems??

My car is mainly a street car, and is a daily driver (which is why I opted for the trutrac) but it will most likely see the track once or twice a month..

Just want to hear from the guys who actually have ran these in their cars or are running them now..

Thanks

the 31 splines will be the weak point i think...they will brake or at least twist splines
other then that it shouldent break

is this an auto or m6? auto i wouldent worry about it...m6 id not think of it as indestructable...

I'd be even more worried about that POS trutrac, those things are junk. I've seen a 300 rwhp car blow one of those apart, I wouldn't trust that diff in my 4.7 powered dodge pickup, nevermind anything I'd see a need to put a 9 inch in.

the trutrac is by far the only thing you will probably break w/ 600rwhp. unless you have a manual. then possibly the axle, but probably not.

Yeah I do have a 6 speed.. So at 600HP most likely the only thing that would break would be the trutrac?

I'd worry about anything besides a spool, if it has parts to break they can break today or years later, it's always a coin toss.

My friend had one he broke on a low 11 sec car with a 6,500 rpm clutch dump, needless to say he wasn't making 600 hp.

I had a buddy of mine blow up a trutrac with 300 rwhp, 1/2 the power that the axles are supposedly good for.

trutrac = junk. If you have to have a posi, stick with the eaton/aubrun, at least those are rebuildable, the trutrac, can not be rebuilt, another negative on those things.

While the trutrac might be a piece of crap, the Auburn's are just as bad if not worse. Yeah you can rebuild them, but not when they are in a million pieces.. I have broken TWO auburn posi both of which were in 8.8 rear ends in mustangs. One of them was the regular Auburn unit and the other was the Auburn HD unit. BOTH of them shattered into pieces with a hard launch on slicks with 500+ rwhp.

Spool = the ONLY way to go with a 6spd car and big power...

a full detroit if you can stand the locking and unlocking characteristics. it should (i think) be fine. that is what we always used in rockcrawling and we would literally beat them to death. 400hp/42 inch tires/4000lb weight/ and lots of throttle, bouncing and beating.

I was going to chime in about the detroit locker (what I have in my car) with 35 spline axles.... The Detroit locker will last. Anything you need a 9" for I feel you are beyond Posi units even if Sauron himself forged it in the fires of Moordoor... If you have a 9" let your ***** drop, and buy a locker or a spool....

Damn, thats harsh. I must be pretty lucky with mine so far, it's handled 600rwhp and clutch dumps in my full weight car for one season so far.

Now it's in my A4 car which should be making right around 600hp next week, i'll keep my fingers crossed i guess!

You have the 31 spline truetrac in a 6 speed? 600HP and launching at what RPM? Slicks?

31 spline, 4.11 gears TrueTrac in an aluminum center section, 600rwhp (132.7mph in fullweight car), leaving at around 6500 rpms with a Textralia OZ700 on 28" ET Drags. It's netted me a best 60ft of 1.47 so far

Ive made probably 12-15 launches like this so far with no probs, but with the way JL talks im kinda worried now, lol. Oh well, it's going behind my auto now (438rwhp + 200shot) so Im really not too worried if it stood up to the M6 abuse
