Default ARP vs TCI flexplate

I have heard mixxed reviews on which flexplate to run. I am not too worried about either of these handling the power. I am only around 400 rwhp. I just want one that is balanced well. Maybe even a cheaper unit will fit me just fine. I have been told to go for the best balanced one when running higher rpms. I just dont know what route to go. Any suggestions would be great.

I didn't know ARP made a flexplate>> Could you give a site. I think I am going to order a JW Perfromance Trsmissions LS1 crankshaft adapter and run a old school sfi approved 168 tooth internally balanced flexplate and run an old school converter because there are a ton of them lying around here to experiment with... hehe

I have a TCI on my car. Had to shim it to get it within spec. Works fine. Mid 10s on drag radials.

I like the TCI unit, its expensive though. My only other comment comes from the powder coating they use. They powder coat the entire thing. The powder coating needs to be removed from any area that has a bolt, if not, then the powder coating can "wear" and the bolts loosten up.

sorry, I meant ATI. I was just picking out some ARP converter bolts and so i mentioned the wrong name. I was looking for a comparison between TCI and ATI. lol

also, I called ATI and they said their flexplate is made for a custom 10 inch converter. i have a yank pt3800 and they said i can't run an ATI with that converter....

I don't really understand all of the shimming stuff either. are you shimming it so it is a certain distance from the converter or from the motor?

essenstially...you need two things to happen...

first, you want the hub of the converter to be seated in the crank as that is what ensures is concentric to the crank.

second...you want the converter backed out of the trans (the front pump) 1/8-3/16 of an inch (typical). so if you have the converter pushed all the way in the trans and the space between the converter mounts and the flexplate pads exceed 3/16 you need to add spacers.

yeah...the ati was built around using a "traditional" converter. I'm using an ATI converter with mine...

There is just so many that I just don't have a clue. I doubt i will have a problem with any of them. Its not like I am pushing tons of power. I just like things that are well made and balanced really well. When things are balanced well, everything seems to work better together.

By the way, is there a benefit of 1 or 2 piece flexplates over the other?
